Here's hoping our leaders show a bit of backbone for once

Someone posted earlier, that the progress Liverpool have made with the mass (ish) testing is a perfect way for the Govt to use that as an example to the rest of the country. Fits their levelling up thing, and having Everton/Liverpool games with a handful of fans in is a powerful image.

No idea about Manchester mind.

Tier 2 I'd guess for Liverpool for reason you've said.

By putting the city in tier 3, they are effectively saying their mass testing wasn't much of a success. Governments don't tend to do stuff like that, but who knows what the plan is.

From what I can see, the cases have dropped quite a lot recently so tier 3 probably isn't proportionate any way.

Hospital figures - 377 deaths were announced today, up 173 on yesterday and down 7 on last Tuesday. 353 deaths were in English hospitals, up 175 on yesterday and up 23 on last week. The 7 day rolling average falls slightly to an even 353

All settings - for the 28 day cut off, 608 deaths were announced today, up 402 on yesterday and up 10 on last Tuesday. The 7 day rolling average rises slightly to 441.86

For the 60 day cut off, 644 deaths were announced today, up 431 on yesterday and up 16 on last Tuesday. The 7 day rolling average rises to 466.57

I wish the argument about mental health was considered by the same people who complain about it re lockdown when they were considering bringing in the gig economy, agency labour, screwing everyone’s pension and generally cutting the welfare bill, social support and so on. Things that really did cause people to kill themselves.
Certainly there’s a financial component in addition to social. It all needs to be considered both now and after covid is under control. Mental health as a whole is overlooked by our society in general, seemingly because you can’t see it or measure it as easily as physical illness. It’s a major problem and has been forever, yet outlets and quality care so minimal.

wait.. so if you are in tier 1 at xmas. You can meet 5 other people in the pub on xmas day but you can't go to the pub with 5 if they are in your xmas bubble?

how does that make sense???

Tier 2 will still mean pubs shut. Basically that pleases hardly anyone, unless you're a restaurant goer.
