PHE suggest hospitality is responsible for 5%..... our pub is the most incredibly Covid secure place you could be...the other pubs and restaurants in the area have put so much effort into making them secure they really don’t need to be attacked again. Everything in the pub gets cleaned and sanitised, everyone wears masks, the bar staff look like they work in a contagious disease laboratory, the rules are followed to the letter. Exactly what more does anyone want.....

The problem is, as always, there will be the minority of places that have done almost nothing and do not adhere to guidelines. There aren't enough people to spot check and enforce Covid safe environments so inevitably there will be spread - which will be highlighted by those who are focussed purely on protection of life.

It seems unfair to highlight one section of society out as the cause of spread. We have increased public transport use, return to shops, university return, schools open, hospitality back and workplaces returning to normal - without stronger messaging and effective track and trace it should not come as a surprise to anyone.

Students back at university kids back at school, shocked surely not .this virus is not a joke people with other illnesses are also paying for it, if shutting down has to be done so be it but like it or not unis and schools should shut .maybe doing a extra year in education might have to happen to pull back time lost.

Closing schools literally the worst thing we can do. So unfair on less well off kids who aren't able to learn online.

Another lockdown will cause more harm than good.

Not all schools. infant and junior schools should never have been closed. The kids don’t get infected and their parents have to take time off work. Close secondary and Universities by all means, and put the lazy buggers to work around the home, but let’s do it intelligently and not knee jerk.....

I doubt @davek thinks that every pub is spreading Covid19, but without the means to properly spot check and track and trace, there isn't really a suitable method to quickly certify those pubs that are doing everything necessary and those that aren't.

Maybe instead of treating all pubs the same they should respect the pubs that are doing the right things and come down hard on the ones who are ignoring the new rules.

Yes agree ,but speaking to relatives and workmates alot of the classes are half full my point was the whole year is a disaster maybe for the pupils and students sake another year might be needed. Also it has spiked when they all went back maybe they should have stayed open herd amunity was said then backtracked by the government. Feel sorry for all the students and school kids they need a full crack of the school year not a half baked one.

That all sounds fine in theory, but the problem is that Labour have simply rubber stamped everything the clown has proposed. Indeed it is Labour mayors that are asking for even more restrictions (and then doing u-turns when their local businesses and consumers revolt). It would be good if Labour challenged the government's reasoning and proposals, but they won't. So, even with the clown gone - we'd get more of the same. That's the sad conclusion I reached which is why I don't even bother criticising Boris anymore, we have no alternative.
