Hate to be political, but if this was a labour/Lib dem MP- there would be uproar. How irresponsible, endangering the lives of Britons by inaction. Lying to population that he had approached manufacturers weeks ago.

Read somewhere that a European ventilator manufacturer said they could up production "as is" by working extra shifts, but, under normal circumstances, it would take them a few months to tool up to increase capacity.

At a push, you could probably bring that few months down to three or four weeks, but that's at an existing manufacturer, so it's very hard to imagine anyone can do anything significant from scratch. No harm in trying like, but they must know it's a long shot to get anything moving in the next two or three months.

No tennis for 6 weeks as announced by ATP, but it will be extended I reckon, no Roland Garros and Wimbledon this season :(( terrible days.

interesting how low their death rate is in comparison to cases
They seem to be pretty much testing anything that moves so that helps give a better rate - think most western governments have underestimated how powerful that is to reduce panic and for people to trust the numbers (along with the testing actually helping reduce/control the spread by itself).

It's absolutely bewildering to me that governments worldwide did not follow my advice of stopping all inbound travel from China before the virus had the opportunity to spread worldwide. So unfortunately, I'm not in the least bit surprised by this incompetence.

They acted fast and took the appropriate measures by closing the place down. Paying dividends for their decisive action now - we should be doing our utmost to replicate what they done.. if it isn't already to late.

The argument of course is that it's paying dividends now, but that they may be hit harder by a second wave than a country hit harder with the first wave.

I'm not defending the course of action by our government, but just describing the logic.

I'd much, much prefer to be South Korean right now personally.

Looks like France going into 45 day quarantine with military out on streets from this evening ;-( Mental how people are reacting to stuff :-( Police stopped me and told me to go home but was on way to pharmacey to get anti rejection medicine as had transplants last year so on 19 tablets a day and they rang to ensure it was legitimate before letting me pass :-(

Why would you not look at how countries are coping, single out Korea for their low mortality rate and then copy exactly what they’re doing?!

We’ve had a 3 week head start over struggling European countries and our government has blown it. Cheltenham went on last week, thousands of fans from the epicentre of Spain’s outbreak visited Liverpool last week, concerts going on over the weekend and nobody is getting screened at airports.
