Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Like I said a couple of weeks ago, cases in Birkenhead were all connected by the pub.

Things are relatively back to normal outside now with work and everything else and cases are rising. Sorry but it's clearly external issues that are the problem, not someone's house. Unless you talk about a house party or something that specific.

If I caught it from work and passed it quite easily to my wife once I got home, is it still household spreading or the 30 potential carriers In my office at fault?

Pendle was put into restrictions the day before EID. I got loads of abuse on here when i said it was obvious the GOV thought it was spreading in the households of the Pakistani community. Since the restrictions have been in place Pendle has gone from top spot to not even being in the top 15, the trend has been a sharp decline in positive cases.

All that from just stopping families meeting inside. Pubs have stayed open throughout that period.

IE it's spreading in the households. The 10pm curfew is to stop house parties

I don’t see how we can. Payment holidays are ending and bailiffs are back on the scene. Colleague spoke to one yesterday who told her they had a massive backlog of council tax arrears to try and collect but they were visiting people’s houses who simply had no cash or earnings. We are about to see a colossal recession.
Anything can happen with the government behind it, as they were from March on. People will be furloughed, evictions will be blocked.

We've seen it once, we know the script.

It's either lockdown + security or the death toll rockets beyond what we've seen so far, mass unemployment and homelessness, and society falls apart and we have anarchy. Something tells me the Tories aren't going to want that to happen.

Forget what they've said so far on not shutting things down. They will.

No, it's because most pubs actually enfore social distancing and clean and provide sanitasion points.

Not like Davek would have you believe that everyone in pubs is rammed together spreading the virus
Same as in Germany they did some kind of study and it came out that the most infections/outbreaks were occurring in private households and care homes. The numbers that could be traced back to bars/restaurants were comparatively low. Something like 20% each for the former and 5% for the latter.

Scientists are saying you're wrong, and that households are a crucial vector for virus spread.

You need to go to the supermarket to buy food, and you may need to go to work to earn a living and keep paying bills. You do not need to go to your mate's house.

I don't need to go to town and do a load of shopping around hundreds of other people but that's allowed.

I don't need to go the pub but that's allowed.

I don't need to go to a theme park , but that's allowed.

Just can't go to someone's house.

That really make sense?

Saying it's households though in such a way suggests it's not households , it's mass gatherings. Many people interacting rather than a few.

Two people socially distanced with santitiser on the go is not more dangerous than going to town or going the pub and getting sloshed. Just logically it isn't, far less interaction.

I know for a fact now if you went into Liverpool for some shopping there would be hundreds walking around with the majority not wearing a mask and not socially distanced from each other. In the shops sure but not outside it.

That's far more dangerous in spreading a virus , it's literally mass gathering on a large scale.

Can see the north facers and students going along with that, not to mention the diligence that will be show by primary school kids. The only hope was to have effective test and trace in place, they've made an unbelievable mess of that and I know many in public health and the NHS feel pretty betrayed.

it's downright disgraceful to be honest. I haven't really criticsed the gov on COVID as it was such an unsual and hard thing to deal with, but to now get to 6 months after the lockdown started to not have a test and trace and to not have enough tests is just disgusting really

It's all getting shut down soon. These latest restrictions are the thin end of the wedge. Anyone who doesn't see this as easing us into a new national lockdown isn't living in the real world. By the middle of next month we'll be locked down tight...or as tight as we were between mid-March and May.
I can see a two week full lockdown over the October school half term.
Any future lockdown will have a specified time scale this time.
