I'd disagree with that, not doing routine work is not overwhelmed, it's over-cautious and unnecessary, in Ireland there were approximately 3000 less cancer referrals (for certain cancers not all) over the same period last year, how many of these will now miss the crucial early diagnosis? For comparison 1738 people have died from corona.
Because of medical care basically closing to everything apart from Covid19 we could very well see a surge of deaths over the next few years of people who could have been easy treated, this number will easily dwarf the amount of deaths from Covid.
Overall, referrals to cancer services have fallen to less than half of the usual numbers.
