Keep in mind that shops will have a legal duty to provide a safe working environment for their staff, and indeed for patrons. Given the legal complications that might arise from either group getting seriously ill on their premises, I would imagine the vast majority of sensible employers would err on the side of caution when letting people back. I had to travel a bit for work last week that required prolonged mask wearing (~90 minutes at a time), and it really isn't that big an imposition if you really must go back into a physical store.

By the way, mandating the wearing of masks is also in no way an example of fascism. If you're going to prattle on about your intelligence, at least understand the words you use.

To be fair I've been wearing a mask out whilst shopping recently anyway

As you know, in Asian cultures, the practice is far more widespread. In the west, far less so. As to why that is, I don't really know, but it wouldn't surprise me if more repeated exposure to deadly viruses has played a part.

Having worn one for an extended period of time last week, they really don't impede your breathing at all. Have you actually worn one?

No. I'm not interested in them but it stands to reason that anything that blocks the flow of air in and out of your body is not a good idea.

The reason masks are being worn now is because a virus had been spreading rapidly through the population for which we have no vaccine, and which is far more virulent than the flu.

“We didn’t wear masks before, therefore the science is wrong and they’re useless” is clearly an absurd argument.
