Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

I have stayed at home, I've left the house 6 times since we went into lockdown, that was only to get shopping for a vulnerable relative of my partners. I have not seen my family in 5 months, had nobody to congratulate me on my nee job, had to cancel my wedding. Despite that, its not been that bloody hard to stay indoors. What has been hard is reading the constant abuse of the public to obey the simplest of guidelines.

I hear people say minority, but there is a lot of instances now all over the country. Nothing is being done against these minorities though, they're just being allowed to wreak havoc. When the police finally get involved they're getting assaulted so where's the support for them to do their job effectively.

I, like the rest of us want us back to normality as quickly as possible, if everyone keeps making excuses for the "minority" and have the attitude of "well it was going to be lifted next week anyway" or "well nobody else is bothering with 2m,why should i?" more and more are going to neglect the rules and we'll never contain the virus.

We're going to be in lockdown a lot longer because of the short sighted selfishness of those people.
Sorry to here about your wedding mate. I'm not surprised you're angry. I've said on here loads that people are affected by this in so many different ways and that we're all a bit too quick to judge sometimes when we don't always know the full picture.

But the science is pretty clear that the risks of catching this disease outdoors is massively lower than catching it in enclosed spaces. So yes, I am a bit more accepting of these groups when they're in open spaces and social distancing to a degree. The infection rate is about 1 in 2000 in the UK now mate. So if there is 10,000 on a beach then on average 5 people will be covid positive, and they need to be basically in somebody's face for a few minutes to pass it on.

And yes, there are loads of them about and all over the country. But with a population of nearly 70m they are still the minority mate. And yes I agree that on the whole they are selfish and self serving, and I'm sure the fact that what they are doing is low risk doesn't even enter their head. I doubt they care one way or the other. If they did they wouldn't be going around fighting, getting drunk and leaving the beach likes a battle site.

Honestly the most careless group over here seems to be many 40-60s

There's likely a reason for that. It certainly won't be totally true, but , basically ...

  • At that age, you're unlikely to die from COVID
  • At that age, your nearest family are likely to be your kids, who are at even less risk than you are
  • At that age, your grandparents are more likely than not to be dead, so you can't pass it onto them
  • At that age, certainly the upper part of it, a large minority will have lost one, or both parents

If you're younger than 40 to 60, you're likely to be more concerned about passing the virus onto your parents or grandparents

If you're 60+, you're concerned about your own chances of surviving an infection.

Plainly there's some sweeping generalisations in there, but overall, it's probably about right, and is subconciously making a difference to how middle aged people behave.

Theres definitely sound logic to it. I am most concerned about possibly passing parents so you're right on that. It seems pretty split at my age group in terms of attitude about it. For example a few of my mates are going out drinking tonight but me and another guy passed as we didnt feel great about going to a crowded bar (even the outdoor ones will be packed on a Friday night, even more so post lockdown)

Good read on the UK approach to TTT.

Now reports of a 'block' party in West London (as per usual) heavily promoted by the irresponsible titheads on social media.

Mass demonstrations with huge numbers over several weeks

Massively overcrowded beaches leading to a major incident being declared

Multiple illegal raves and block parties promoted by the terminally irresponsible pricks on social media

Football celebrations on two nights running totally ignoring all warnings from the city's mayor and council.

Britain is doing it's best to get a second wave and make it one to remember

(Although not exclusively you would have to say that the vast majority of the above 'offenders' are not the more elderly and most at risk generation - but it's exactly that generation which may bear the consequences)

Think I'm going into the Optician business, there certainly seems a big demand with all the self eye testing going on.
