Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

I was stood at the bottom of Grassendale / Cressington Esplanade and there were people sprawled out on the grass, whereas usually it's very quiet.

When I looked over to Otterspool Prom, it was like everybody had forgotten there was a fairly deadly and infectious virus spreading throughout the city.
Lockdown has completely finished here.
May as well open everything back up.

Caldies was packed today, but in fairness everyone was keeping their distance.

However if you had an agenda and wanted to portray people misbehaving, it wouldn`t have been hard to make a photo look exactly like that.
From what I've seen, I think the majority of people are considerate and keeping their distance; those who aren't are often teenagers or young adults.

With parents going back to work, I suspect there's less supervision and off out they go with their mates. People in general are feeling more relaxed as well.

You're also right that pictures can unfairly portray a situation, but the pictures on the BBC and Echo, with lines of cars, still make me feel overly anxious.

I let my eldest lad out today for a couple of hours with one of his mates for the first time in nearly two months.

It reached a point where I could see he was becoming really miserable and was almost going into a torpor.

My missus wasn`t too keen, but I fought his corner for him.

You can`t keep them locked up forever and just have to hope that the message has sunk in.

Is it though?

Throughout all of this people forget that on average 1000 people die anyway each day.

To say it's 40000 higher than normal means we are looking at a very significant death number every single day which has not been the case. Certainly not the case in Liverpool.

Plus if it is 40000 higher currently then every single covid death was fit well and was never dying unless they caught the virus. Which is not the case neither.

I'm not sure how you can sit there and type the above when the reality is plain to see on the ONS website.

From the graph below, all deaths peaked at 3000 a day, compared to an average less than half that for the time of year

The number of deaths due to COVID-19 increased nearly every day up to 8 April 2020.webp

From https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopula...englandandwalesprovisional/weekending8may2020

Looking at the year-to-date (using the most up-to-date data we have available), the number of deaths up to 8 May 2020 was 259,906, which is 44,742 more than the five-year average

The excess deaths statistics are fact. You can't spin it away.

From March 14 to May 08, nearly 55000 people more than the 5 year average for that timeframe have died.

.....And not maintaining appropriate social distancing........

Yes. Boo those disgruntled health workers risking their lives every day and coming in on their 12 hours rest to remind the PM that she froze their pay, failed to provide them with what they need, screwed up enforcing a lock down to make their jobs harder, putting 16 people on a stage to tell the plebs to stay 1.5m apart but that a good old clap is enough to keep them going.

They're the villains here.

I never said they were, I merely stated two facts...they weren’t inside working and they weren’t observing social distancing....don’t shoot the messenger......
