Everton on shutdown
Dave’s predicting more deaths. At this point I would like to congratulate everyone for successfully surviving COVID-19At this stage it's obvious that Johnson's plan has failed and his reliance on some group called SAGE to "expertly" advise him and his government to minimize social interaction (in stark contrast to the advice given to other governments and the policies they've enacted) has been folly that will cost lots of people their lives. Even their own ex health minister has comne to that conclusion.
good on easyjet
He makes a very convincing argument that the sooner you go into lockdown the more lives you save, and on the face of it, it's hard to disagree. The problem the various authorities have is that this is just as much an economic emergency as much as it is a medical one. Trying to manage them both involves balancing one against the other. I'm glad I'm not the one having to make the decisions.
There's been a lot of unfair criticism of the government on here. Fortunately that isn't the case in Westminster where, apart from justified criticism for compensation for the self employed and non contract workers, they mostly seem on board with government policy in their handling of the situation. I think that's because the government, for once, are acting on the advice of the experts.
I don't think it's a case of whether the UK go into full lockdown like we're seeing in Italy etc. It really is a case of WHEN we do it and that will be when the experts say the time is right. In making that decision I'm sure they will have all the stats and information contained in that report from medium.com, and working on those scenarios will have an educated guess at the true numbers of those infected here and when they will start to manifest themselves.
Personally I'll be surprised if we go much longer than another week before we start closing schools and colleges and ban sporting events and other large gatherings. As a layman I can't understand why we're still allowing large gatherings to take place, but all we can do is trust in the experts to do their job. As I said, it's not a role I envy in the slightest.
Shareholder easyJet boo!Ryanair will probably double theirs.
I dont care who he supports. And when did he say he didn't want the PL shut down?
Football is more important than life and death, according to some...I dont care who he supports. And when did he say he didn't want the PL shut down?
And we should bear in mind Johnson is notorious for not reading his briefs and bullsh*tting. We have excellent medical advisers. I hope that we can use experts now.I think it was in the guardian a couple of days ago. However, why do you put your trust in this guy and not the CMO and CSO of the U.K. ? I appreciate that it feels like we should close everything now, and there’s no doubt that everything will be closed at some point, it’s just the judgement call of when. I think the government are doing the right thing listening to these guys, who themselves will also be getting advice and support, rather than let’s do something at the wrong time....so whose experts are right ?....
People are just being paranoid.!
Surely this thread is high vaultage material
And on that note can I suggest you change your posting name?!
Oh right, that's conclusive then.I think it was in the guardian a couple of days ago. However, why do you put your trust in this guy and not the CMO and CSO of the U.K. ? I appreciate that it feels like we should close everything now, and there’s no doubt that everything will be closed at some point, it’s just the judgement call of when.
