Ironically for much of history white bread was something only the rich ever got to eat; brown bread (and especially brown bread with bits in it) was something for the poor (including eating ones dinner off it). However people then discovered that brown bread is healthier, so the price of that went up and white bread went down.
It's interesting that white bread is among that range of comestibles once labeled "refined foods" that now bear the label "processed foods."

"Refined" and "processed" are synonymous terms for all practical purposes but different in their aesthetic associations, with the former associated with a sort of gentility to which the latter cannot aspire. Seems to follow the declining reputation of white bread as a food for the affluent.

EDIT: Sorry for the off-topic post, folks.

Terrible news.

Is this the peak of it for the US? Looks like NY have had theirs.
Some of the modeling predicted the peak on April 15th although a much higher number.

Really hard to say though as lockdowns dates, and compliance, varied widely - here in Bay Area we had “stay at home” March 16 so have more confidence we are (at least for first wave) than say S Dakota who have never had one.

Yeah, it's a concern that the lockdown strategy is being questioned by the Executive and now out on the streets. The fact that it's an election year is going to exacerbate it all.

Boston to philly corridor probably peaked. Don't think we've peaked in the DC/Baltimore metro area yet.

Don't know what's going to happen in Florida, Texas, Georgia and some midwest states. Way too early to tell.

Germany are ramping up again on the testing: looking to test 4.5 million per week.

UK testing capacity stuck at between 20,000 and 30,000 per day.

The government of this country are an absolute disgrace. They've turned us into a banana republic.

Think we can stick a fork in this 1, yet to see anything good about it, of course it could just be a case of getting the right dosage or sticking something else in with it, but it doesnt look the answer so far.
Was a bit of a flag that Trump had stopped promoting it at every recent press conference.

Real pity though, would have been nice to have something currently available that worked.

Our infectious disease specialist today was wondering if we are using it too late. It does have good in vitro activity so theoretically should do better than it has shown.
Common problem....a potentially dangerous medication so patients have to be pretty sick to warrant trying it when you don’t know if it is going to work.
