The Cornish Tourism officials are today saying that they lost £300m over Easter and unless tourists are back in July and August Cornwall will go bust.

How long before other UK holiday destinations start saying the same... this after many of them complained about people travelling to their areas in the first place.

You reap what you sow.

Pack it in.

They complained a few weeks ago, as they were rightly scared that a mass influx of day trippers and tourists would infest their communities with their virus, leading to people within those communities dying.

Short term you’d imagine Arse is probably going to be falling out of the property market . However if you’ve got any cash at the minute then you’d think you’d get yourself some bargains .

Most brewers concentrating on the haemorrhaging share prices at the min and staying afloat at the minute .
It’s literally a disaster capitalists wet dream this.

Commercial land, pubs, distressed sold and repo’d housing, tanked share prices, the list goes on....anyone with liquid capital will clean up in the aftermath of this.

In that case you can tell me the process which the UK Govt are using to purchase the ventilators and face masks from China and the budget in place to do this?

Thats the side I know about...

True, my point is simply that no one knows...there may not be a vaccine.

We dont even know if its related to or affected by climate, carrier, blood type etc.

For all we know it could have been sent down from Mars...

But youre right about extra time with loved ones.

Friends in SG were quatantined at home after arriving from London a month or so ago...14 days.

Aside from that + closing offices and telling people to self isolate at home...everything remained open till a couple of weeks ago.

Korea is at 17 and yet they were considered to be extremely efficient.
This is an odd question based on the discussion we had.

A. Because it's largely already available for the public b) if you're managing a strategic response to something you normally aren't interested in the process so much as seeking assurance that it is happening c) the 'procurement process' isn't a single process because it's managed by a number of different government departments d) the current procurement process doesn't really give any indication about preparedness prior to an outbreak in the UK, it just tells you that the UK Government still don't think they have the capacity they need.

Plus a lot of the breweries would use it as an excuse to cash in on the property value of the pub for alternate use ( flats / houses / shops etc ) - the Roscoe Head in town immediately springs to mind.
This was my worry.

Whether business rates are halted or not, you can't see landlords not asking for rent over such a period of time, so they may be forced to take a loan to cover it.

That itself would make many potentially unviable to run, so there'll be landlords who simply have to walk away and that's before all the other costs to run it.

Like you also said, there'll be some breweries (Punch etc.) who will need to offload some pubs simply to add to the cash flow so they can cover their own costs.

I expect at least 10% of pubs not to reopen in the long-term, and it may be many more in the short-term.

GPS have been instructed to include CV-19 on the DC where the person has shown symptoms. You have to assume that the GPS all act with professionalism and integrity in this regard. Now that testing is being extended to care/nursing homes we'll get a more accurate, or at least a more certain picture. It may then show whether the previous reported deaths were accurate or not.

Let's hope they are able to roll out the community testing quickly and the staff actually get to test the patients before they die
The figures would look so much different of they had prioritised getting everyone tested.

Even now there is no plans for you or I to get a test for it , only testing at the point of hospital.

Not sure how they can lift any lockdown for months in current circumstances. The infection rate isn't dropping , the number of serious cases are dropping in essence. Even if they tested only a 10th of the population over the next 3 weeks , they would have a much better idea of infection rates.

I’ve literally just had that same conversation with someone I know . I have currently and I’m going to lose a fairly decent chunk of money over this .

Being dispassionate about it I suspect I’ll end up in a slightly better position when it’s over because I’ve got a little bit of cash behind me and there will definitely be money to made there . I’m not saying I’m a huge profiteer but opportunities will arise .

Which is another reason why tax havens need to be the source of the money required to pay for all this. If we don’t go to them and try to repay this via taxes, the people with money in havens will be buying up stuff like crazy anyway.

There’s not going to be many repoed homes, at least in the short term with regards to payment holidays, missus works as a law firm that instructs bailiffs etc and essentially she’d be surprised if any bank was stupid enough to risk the PR disaster to reclaim property until after summer. (Plus the legal costs of doing such will skyrocket as the whole thing is a mitigating circumstance.)

Even the markets, whilst down aren’t exactly in a position prime for exploitation. There’s so much uncertainty about how the world changes going forward, the demand for oil might never return to the level it was at.

The die has already been cast mate, it’s too late to stop offshore vulture capitalist cash cleaning up in the aftermath of this. The hedge funds have already started, they’ve been absolutely cleaning up in a volatile and fast moving market.

In the long term, I hope that his will become a priority because it will be much needed tax revenue to help offset the extra we're all going to end up paying.

However, I suspect HMRC will be heavily burdened for a fair time to come and may have their eyes on other things; this furlough scheme is already causing issues.

Agree with you btw, just makes it so baffling as to why people can just fly into our airports, with no checks, when we are being kept in, rightly and prevented from moving around our own country, again correct.
