I see teachers want to continue to have a holiday at taxpayers expense.

Wasn't the point of closing the schools to minimise the risk or children carrying the virus elsewhere?

You reverse that decision whilst keeping the lockdown restrictions in place and you create a hub for spreading.

I mean all the parents have to congregate in the school yard before it opens

Never mind the teachers, though I reckon teaching online would be awful, but I bet plenty of the workshy layabout types are enjoying being part of the majority for a change and avoiding any criticism for their malingering.

So,

The UK’s tactics for dealing with Covid 19 are going well.

Deaths up to near 1000 in the last 24hrs with no end in sight.

Who’s culpable?

The scientists, the government, the irresponsible people or the whole lot of them.

Blame the buffers who have been running politics in recent years and sympathy for those who put them there.

For me, very simple maths and logic would indicate that even a small primary school (200 children) could be a place where the virus could spread easily.

All the staff, those children and their parents dropping them off would all be within close proximity on at least two occasions: that's not social distancing is it?

I know my wife, who works in school finance, has had her school open this week as a hub, like another fifty schools in the city, and staff on a rota with no PPE.

But yeah... a holiday.

Think it depends what day it is . Initially we were told schools were really safe and best place for children then I think 48 hrs later we closed them all , with a view to them being shut until around September . I think we’re speculating that they’re safe again and might be open before May . I’d expect that to change maybe by Friday .

Not the teachers I’ve seen. Most of them that live near me are sunning themselves in their gardens daily

For Teachers at secondary schools I think that will be largely true. Primary schools not so much as many still open and staff on a rota. I’ve said on here before closing primary schools was a nail in the coffin for many workers. I’m coping till end of April but after then a solution will need to be found. I’m sure I’m not alone there.

Definitely. When it is safe to open, they should be opened again and allow the economy to restart, yet from the predictions etc. I doubt it will be in the short term.

I know when I drop my son off at breakfast club it's relatively quiet (few people on the yard), but when it's the normal start time it's very hard to self-distance.

This is a difficult situation for a lot of people and the longer we're in lock down the greater the financial impact, however if we break it too soon it may all be in vain.

Short term pain for longer term gain and all that.

Listen mate I’ve no real problem with strategic planning , like you I’m sure, I’ve sometimes thought they were rubbish sometimes pretty good but generally you can see the kernel of a plan in there . I’m afraid This lot look like they’re doing this on the hoof and writing it up on the back of a fag packet , at the daily briefing I half expect them to say “let’s hear from our medical experts professors benson and hedges “.

To be constantly shifting in what they seem to want or be aiming for doesn’t I’m afraid give me too much confidence they’ve got either control of the situation or a plan where to take us .

I know our teachers are on a rota 7am to 5pm Monday to Sunday offering child care for keyworkers. Can't see it being any different elsewhere.
And Of course these days many people have significant health conditions and can go about a normal life, well until this virus came long, I would not expect anyone in such a risk category to be going into work.
Also between visits for work I have sat in my garden doing notes on work laptop, as the office is for Duty and AHMP duties only now.

did a nice little 20km spin tonight, sun was shining, people smiling.. even got waves and hello's. Seems like people are less aggressive towards cyclists around my home then on this forum
Italy ( home of the Giro ) banned recreational cycling didn't they during lockdown.
Cos people fall off and get injured and end up in hospital ?

I'd suggest this is why our forum is questioning you and your 20k spin ?
