It seems crazy that on the 7th April Chris whitty is saying we can learn from Germany and their “testing , testing , testing “ mantra when a number of people on here not to mention the wider world often with zero experience in the field were advocating exactly that a couple of weeks ago . How can we have dropped the ball so badly here when it’s seems so basic ?

I suspect what they're learning most about is how to project a message that people are happy with. Most of the stats that are put out are highly dependent upon the methodology used to collect them. I mentioned last week that in Czech, tests were coming back 90% negative. Turns out they're actually testing the same people multiple times, so their relatively high test numbers are actually on a relatively small number of people. Sounds good though doesn't it?

yeah but I get the feeling we’re doing the opposite so the mortality rate looks higher so people remain ‘frightened’ to comply . If we tested more and the death rate fell I think we’d see more ignoring of the restrictions. So it feels like we’re maybe going the other way , just a feeling .

I've noticed that no-one has answered the question. Why is that we all learned about Russian history? When UK and Irish folks moved to America.

these people are highly paid, highly qualified professionals, we’re told “don’t question them , they know what they’re doing “ and in reality on occasion joe public seems to have a better grasp on what’s going on than them . That’s absolutely terrifying .

TBF I am reasonably sure that they did what most senior civil servants / experts did and presented the political leadership with a range of options for a range of scenarios.

The political leadership then, through a rigorous process, then whittled those down to the craziest one and went with that. As you say almost everyone reacted in horror because of what that policy represented.
