I put it down to people not being old enough to have seen The Cassandra Crossing to worry about this kind of thing.

It's also a severe lack of education for many regarding how deadly these pandemics can potentially be, which combined with native politics has been a terrible mix.

For example, I mentioned the Spanish Flu in work yesterday to a colleague who is actually loosely involved in public health, and their ignorance was shocking.

It killed many, many, many more people that the actual First World War in a much shorter time. I'm not saying this'll be the same, but it's a worry about the ignorance.

Indeed. I'm not an expert but I do follow the advise of experts and when a highly respected public health scientist at Harvard put's it like this:

HOLY MOTHER OF GOD - the new coronavirus is a 3.8!!! How bad is that reproductive R0 value? It is thermonuclear pandemic level bad - I’m not exaggerating...

Then I acknowledge that we should probably be taking this more seriously than the CCP and the WHO would have us believe.

What's wrong with that? Many more poultry are exterminated due to Bird flu outbreaks! Eating Bat or Chicken I see no difference, probably both very equal tasty morsels.

Can't blame the WHO so much..their funding has been flat for decades as the increased risk of viruses has only increased and they have made public proclamations about this very threat. But having a decentralized organization is also an issue for them.

Would not surprise me that some funding revenue is up for renewal/renegotiation...
It's a virus here comes another one a little like the other one all day long, a tissue a tissue we all fall down. In the coming days there will be articles linking it to mutating with Ebola...
