Govt’s Chief Scientific Officer publicly rebuked by epidemiologist for ignoring isolation rules

vallance-isolate.png

Ward is a professor in infectious disease epidemiology at the Imperial School of Public Health, about as authoritative a voice on the issue as could be imagined".

Incredible. It's time for a mass clear out of these imbeciles and replaced by the likes of Richard Horton and John Ashton.

Would that be the same Richard Horton who pushed the anti-MMR vaccination nonsense and back in January tweeted the below, despite all the evidence at the time that the Wuhan Flu was a massive threat.

The Spectator ffs. Johnson's right wing moutpiece bull. Attempting to discredit a government critic, not surprising seeing that Johnso is responsible for allowing this virus into the country without checking flights in January.

As far as the media goes and creating panic. Horton was mindful of this ...

And, when one examines the global response to 2019-nCoV, Chinese authorities have acted quickly and decisively to control the outbreak. They have shared information rapidly and transparently. Meanwhile, WHO has been impressive: clear and confident decisions and communication.

A call for caution please. Media are escalating anxiety by talking of a “killer virus” + “growing fears”. In truth, from what we currently know, 2019-nCoV has moderate transmissibility and relatively low pathogenicity. There is no reason to foster panic with exaggerated language.

I don’t think it’s right or fair to say WHO “steps back.” They are seeking more information. That’s different.

Furthermore, we should hold all publishers and editors accountable if they do implement a firewall.

No publisher or editor should put any type of firewall between science and the public during a health emergency. That should be a fundamental principle of journal practice.

I see some extremely important #nCov2019 research studies are behind firewalls at scientific journals. Just tried, e.g., to pull one off a Wiley journal today, Elsevier yesterday. IT IS IMMORAL in an epidemic to hide science behind paywalls. Period @JeremyFarrar @richardhorton1

I am convening an Emergency Committee to ascertain whether the novel #coronavirus (2019-nCoV) constitutes a public health emergency of international concern and what recommendations should be made to manage the outbreak.

That never happened. A sensible approach by Horton. Pity the government didn't take it serious in January when the Lancet published its findings from Chinese medical scientists. Selective reporting by right wing nutters - nothing new there then.

This is why the right wing nutters of the Spectator are attempting to discredit Horton. They want to silence criticism of Johnson and his dangerous lackadaisical antics - 'let in run its course, take it on the chin, expect to lose more loved ones' herd immunity debacle. A cover up is being manufactured to blame all and sundry but not Johnson.

Numbers of health workers contracting COVID-19 are increasing. Yet NHS staff are being threatened if they raise concerns on social media. But, as Marina Hyde wrote this morning, “no member of the public should ever surrender the right to question what is in the public interest.”

So on what grounds would you like to defend the anti-vax movement that your man was a supporter of? Make it good, I'm currently watching 'Ready Steady Cook' and throughly bored enough already.

I'm sure there must be a vaccination thread. You could indulge yourself there if you're 'thoroughly bored'.
