Contracts for players 30 or over

Player Valuation: £8m
Moyes has been a bit of a stickler about giving lengthy contracts to players approaching the ends of their careers. Do you reckon it is out of sorts him giving Pienaar a four year deal at 30 years old. I cant think of another 30 or over player offered a deal that long.

I'll be the bad guy on this one....

Neville / Cahill -- their last contracts are nothing short of a disgrace in terms of length and salary increase as they start to pass their peak. Very similar to the old 'Kevin Campbell' contract where he was paid a fortune when his wages should have started going lower towards the end.

Funny one for me is Distin -- yes hes turned out well. But Everton are not in the position of being able to offer 30+ players long contracts for transfer fees.

Pienaar should not be on a contract till 34.5 years of age.

It's stupidity.

i think the reason its 4 year contract though is if we had signed him for 2 years, we pay 4.5 mil, everyone would have thought signing him was ridiculous for 2 years

Bump this thread in 4 Years if he isnt doing it on the pitch.

Neville and before he left Cahill, had both dropped down the pecking order, but I feel they both helped the team on and off the pitch.

Distin was a beast last Season, not sure why we are discussing his year extension.

For me Pienaar has cost us £1.5 million. I will be amazed if Spurs coughed up the full £3million straight away anyway, so on the £2.2 for him initially 9 years for £3.7 million total is mind blowing business.

The question should be;

"Have Cahill and Neville been worth salaries over 50k a week last season"

Team morale is team morale -- other players could have been brought in, even a part time comedian or two to lighten the mood (Hahnemann and McFadden were probably signed for this reason alone)....

Distin -- in hindsight hes been a good signing -- however Moyes wanted Bassong at the time but was too late and instead opted for Distin.....and over 30 player. I may be wrong but wasnt he on a 3 year deal with a years extension?

I feel Pienaar should have been given the same deal but hes now going to be past his peak on 50k + at the age of 34....

Factor in loyalty bonuses and signing on fees.

What loyalty, he wanted CL football he said, what he meant was he wanted a wage hike and to be able to spend it in that London.
I know nothing of any signing on fees... for anyone.

Every player has a signing on fee....every player is on a loyalty bonus.

The loyalty bonuses are staggered over the contract I think -- with the full amount being paid to a player transferred before his contract is up.

That's how it works on footy manager haha!

I thought it was 3 yrs with a year option. Anyway he is still fit and playing like he is 25. He will still be playing at 36
