I think it comes down to one of those '6 degrees of separation' (or the more hillarious internet game - 5 degrees of Kevin Bacon
)In that, you can pretty much link any multiple number of events or people together fairly easily (especially famous people) with enough research.

I was speaking to a mate of mine who is a telecoms engineer about the 5g conspiracies going around at the moment "They said the same thing about 3g and 4g, and mobile phones, and WiFi internet, and microwave ovens, and DAB radio and..." on he went.
Far too many people using Facebook and and dodgy screen prints on WhatsApp as a news source. I'm constantly yelling in caps like a loony on my workmates WhatsApp group for them to Google this nonsense before posting it on ffs

An acquaintance sent me a YouTube (so it must be true) link t'other day. In a 30 minute film a fela claimed to have been high up in Vodafone but left and can now speak about 5G. According to him, 5G radiation poisons human cells (no other living cells presumably - be cause you know, we're special animals) and the toxins are excreted from those cells as covid19 viruses!!
The science of the claims was so dreadful I stopped watching before 5 minutes. What makes utter cranks come up with this stuff without any basis or logic? Attention seekers? Luddite? It's just downright lies. What do they get from it? All they do is reveal themselves as stupid apart from a handful of even more stupid followers.
As with most of these things, the answer usually is somewhere in the middle.
The issue is now that these days you can become very rich if you have a a huge following on youtube.
Appealing to the type of braindead, morons and new age cranks that this type of 'don't trust the man, MAN!" nonsense appeals to, is the low hanging fruit of social media, sadly...
I think a lot of it is made up on weird forums and people get kudos if something sticks. In the same way someone might get satisfaction from making up a transfer rumour and posting it on forums and watching it take off. Definitely think that someone somewhere is dead proud of themselves for creating flat earthers and Qanon etc.

I cant believe flat earthers still exist .... I mean o know they do and had assumed they just do it as a joke, for the same reason that I'm a member of the pylon appreciation society, but no - they're dead serious.

Mad that the Facebook 5g theorists are the ones who spend all day in front of a screen, have a radiation emitting smartphone attached to their retinas for 12 hours a day, get cooked by radiation emitting sun beds three time’s a week and smoke 20 radiation emitting Lambert and Butlers a day like it’s nothing.
Killed by whom, Rob? Personally, I don't believe he would be killed by anyone because of what he says. Now you say David Icke is a 'halfwit', but this 'halfwit' has made millions by peddling his theories to the world. In my opinion though, his best stuff his when he talks about football; not conspiracies in football, just football in general, I find that the more interesting.
