Computer games.

Found a boss little mobile game if anyone is interested.

Battlejacks it's called. A card collecting game where the combat is blackjack, 21 and under. It's surprisingly deep with ability synergy and stuff so it's not a case of pick 4 cards and level them up.

The game is quite generous as well. It's energy based for turns like a lot of other games but I still have like 100 more than my capacity for playing it as a mobile game. If I spent hours then perhaps I wouldn't but yeah, quite a deep generous game with the paywall seemingly quite high based on my experience so far.

Lads, some kid's Christmas gifts advice needed. Kid is asking for an Xbox one S, which being an arlarse dad I'm not minded to get him as we have a wiiU which seems boss to me (and him tbf, we enjoy playing games together on it). How-ever - Is it the case that the wiiU is basically obsolete wrt new games being released? Think I read that Zelda was the last one developed for it?
If this is the case then perhaps something new is in order. Just wondering how future proof an XBox one S is - I see there's already an XBox one X, so does that mean the S is getting binned in 6 months time or something like that?

I don't think so. You used the word 'synergy' to describe it.

Also, still sounds kinda like P2W to me.

Pretty sure every game developed for Xbox One X will be easily playable on the Xbox One S as well. They'll just have more "frames per second" on the X, so what console you buy shouldn't be a big deal imo. It would surely backfire on Microsoft if they suddenly stopped releasing games to the Xbox One versions the majority of their customers own!

The Xbox One will survive for a good few years yet.

I assume your lad wants to play games with his mates and not his dar, dont feel bad, its what the little RATS do when they get older.

The main problem with WiiU is that the game library available is quite limited compared to the Xbox, and especially online games.
The Xbox one S will last as long as the X, the main difference is that the X version has more powerful hardware, and can run games in 4K quality and higher FPS. But the S version is still a good one, and it can also play 4K resolution movies, which is a nice bonus.
There are currently no news of a new generation of consoles, so I doubt it will be outdated anytime soon.

It is and it isn't. As I say the paywall is quite high , which is to be expected from any free game. I've been playing it for a week and I've always had something to do and always earning good rewards. The clan based thing gives you currency to buy more stuff in itself and there is a friend's system also where it gives you access to other players top cards to use in your deck. Loads off different events , I count at least 5 including PvP (which is still against the computer) and loads of different ways to earn stuff for free, 2 chests plus unlockable plus quests and story chests etc. Even the gems are generous, I've spent a fair bit of gems in the game and I haven't really lost any as I get as much back through free chests and rewards.

The synergy reference is that the cards play together. So different types trigger in cards, they all have abilities to be used which need to be balanced to work well, other cards have abilities triggered alongside others , stat boosts, friend card ability etc so as I say not pick 4 cards and play.

For a free game there is so much content already and so much you can do when playing it. Playing when chests are full can get cards wbich you can then use to upgrade. You even get runes which offer stat boosts and again they can be levelled up. When the paywall is high and there is always something to do every time you play it's quite an impressive game

That makes perfect sense, but doesn't the newer nintendo swich take cartridges, breaking back-compatibility with the wiiU? I don't really have a grasp of the console landscape, but that seems a good example of a major company telling existing customers to do one and buy something new for not especially compelling reasons. Would quite fancy a new nintendo thing as I like splatoon a lot, but if the kid wants an Xbox...

If you have or are planning to get a 4k TV, it might be worth it to go with the 1X as it'll take advantage of what you paid for, for the TV. It's also backwards compatible with the XB1/S games to boot AFAIK. Best Buy (no idea if you have those in blighty) is/was running an 18 month no interest through their credit on purchases $479 and up (it's $499 here). Might be worth it, and you'll be the best dar ever without having to fork over that much cash in one go, unless that's no big deal.

If you don't have a 4k TV then it's really not worth it as you'll mainly get somewhat smoother frame rates (if the devs can be bothered) and some slightly tarted up graphics.

The Switch is an all new console generation for Nintendo, just like PS4 was for PS3 owners and Xbox One for Xbox 360 owners. Xbox One X on the other hand is just an upgraded Xbox One, so every Xbox One game is compatible with both consoles! I've never laid hands on a Wii, so I've no idea if the games run on cartridges or not.

I've personally lost some of the trust I had in Nintendo. When I purchased the Wii U I expected a lot of great games to be released for it, only for them to jump to the next generation way too early (in my opinion). The few good games I have for the Wii U is great fun, but it's not enough. The Wii U was the first Nintendo console I owned since the NES. When you compare the Wii U game catalog to the N64 (greatest console ever) for example, it's just a joke. Even the Game Cube had a ton of fun games. And today they're trying to lure players into buying the Switch so they can play Skyrim or Doom, games that's been on PC, Xbox and PS for ages! A lot of people probably got the Switch for Zelda alone, and that's understandable, but can we really trust them to give us enough great games for years to come? I fear they'll never come close to Sony and Microsoft again and it saddens me. And I'm sorry this derailed into a rant (sort of), so I guess I'll end it here. :P
