Does there really need to be a Red Dead remaster? It wasn't out that long ago and still holds up great. It's not like Final Fantasy 7.

Remaster no I don't think so.

But without psNow which isn't great you can't play it on a PS4. So if they're going to rerelease it so PS4 people can play it may as well do a little remastering if thu feel like it.

Plus people will definitely buy it (me) so it's easy money.

I love a great epic storyline, huge open world. Nitpicking but I like to have a lot of customization over my character as well. So games like the Elder Scrolls series, Dragon Age, Fallout, a neat game called mount and blade, have been a blast for me. I fall victim to over playing. I sunk so so many hours into Skyrim remastered just to drop it suddenly.

Mass Effect has the same Devs as Dragon Age doesn't it? I'll continue to watch some gameplay videos and make a decision. Gutted there isn't a Red Dead remaster for the new consoles.

Seeing as you're clearly into rpgs I think you'd be fine with Nier, though it has more of an idiosyncratic, Japanese flavour than most you've listed there. The physical world is smaller than Horizon which is pretty sizeable, but there's actually more content in Nier in terms of sidequests and an epic sprawling story. Really nothing touches Nier story wise here, and I found the horizon story to be much more by the numbers. That said the actual universe of horizon and the lore around it is really good, so that kept me captivated, just not half as much as Nier's epic story which incorporates dark, existential themes and utilises clever fourth wall breaking at times to genuinely make you think and feel. If you can get to the proper ending without shedding a tear (both of sadness and of joy) then you're a monster.

As for customisation neither has proper character editing, you play as fixed protagonists (though there are 3 in Nier) but both have your standard equipment fare. However Nier does have one incredibly cool feature which is the chip system. As you play as an android, they have memory. As in storage space. You can have up to 128 slots to fill in with whatever you want, though hilariously 2 are used for your operating system (don't remove this unless you save beforehand, ha). The rest you can use for your ui elements or speed boosts, various combat effects which might slow time, make you hit harder, heal when you kill something etc. There are chips for more item drops or more experience. It's just really novel and never before have I ended up removing a ui element to make space so I can make my character stronger.

However as @ijjysmith says, Horizon is not niche. It is good at everything and has a bit of everything so if you want a safe bet then go for it. But I would say if that if you do enjoy Nier you'll utterly adore it, more than horizon. More than most games you've played. But equally there's more chance you might not enjoy it! Play it safe or take more of a gamble, it's up to you!

As for mass effect, though I have it pre ordered and love the series, I'd hold off. Early previews aren't great and though that isn't damning, it's not positive. Whereas Nier and Horizon are both out and are both critically acclaimed and loved by players too.

FF7 does not need remade. Its main appeal was that when released it was unlike anything anyone has ever played before. That feeling isn't coming back.

As far as Red Dead goes, you can brush up a few textures, sell a million or so copies to people who already own and game and $$$$$$$.

Wise words.

Nostalgia is an unwinnable battle for developers. Better in my opinion to make fresh, new and innovative experiences that people can be nostalgic about in the future.

Like Nier. Have I mentioned Nier? You should all buy Nier.

I'll buy Neir Automatica eventually. Making my way through Digimon Cyber Sleuth and Bastion. Then its probably Trails of Cold Steel 1-2 and A Walk in the Woods.

If companies want to remaster stuff I'm all for it. A lot of AAA games cost upwards of 100-200M to develop and promote these days and yet the prices of said games are still a hell of a lot cheaper than Genesis/MD or Super Nintendo games were. The games I like to see remastered are games that fell through the cracks (ex Valkyria Chronicles, Beyond Good and Evil) or games that would have benefited from a better technological platform (don't remake FF7 Square, remake Parasite Eve).

Speaking of Valkyria Chronicles, it was my favorite game of the PS3 era.

I had just finished Oxenfree recently. Its only 4 hours long but was really fantastic if you enjoy these types of games.

Oxenfree is definitely on my list.

Cyber Sleuth was a big surprise. Basically Pokemon meets Persona. Really enjoyed it.

Got back I to the witches. Kept getting my.arse.hamped to me by a werewolf so pur it down. Still in velen. The side quests areally really well put together. Really glad I picked it back up again

Translation: I have started playing Witcher 3 again.

Playing it for the first time now. Recently finished the first 2 games in the series and I've got to say: this might be the best game series I've ever played. Thus far (probably 20 hours into Witcher 3), the first game in the series is still my favorite (when it comes to story). But Witcher 3 is really starting to pick up, so it feels like it might turn out to be the best game of the series eventually.

Playing since early. Still doing side quests and they still aren't running out. Been doing the monster contracts for the last few. Might actually head over to skellige after the footy if she let's me back on it

Almost bought the improved version to play on my lappy when my PS4 died. really loved the game, spent a lot of time on it... but the notion of Chocobo breeding/racing again coupled with the two super extended cut scene flashbacks that require you to trudge along killed that idea dead.

Restarting today as well. Enjoyed it, had sunk probably 50 hours or so into it, and all my data was lost when, as noted above, my PS4 died. this time bought the two expansion packs as well.
