Computer games.

going through a right old horror phase:

Penumbra: Black Plague is very good! Some interesting sci-fi elements to the story too.

Started Soma but not really feeling it...cheesy voiceovers and maybe the concept is getting tired now. Amnesia: Dark Descent is still the absolute king of horror games. All these are from the same small firm, their next game probably needs to be freshen things up.

Notes of Obsession is a freebie and so terrified my fairer half she threw the mouse & keyboard in my general direction (general meaning against the wall).

Call of Cthulhu looks really tasty, just a couple of hours into it for now. Condemned is also on the playlist.

Which horrors are yous getting your pants wet over?

i've heard of the occulus drift.

it's a fad, mate. too intense to become common and not very social either.

still wanna try it on a horror game.pbay

it is social. I was just in a tavern playing games with lots of other people with VR headset on. You can choose a body and you can speak trough the microfone with others.

But of a yes and no answer mate.

Trying the phone vr headset out and you can see so much potential. The amount of power in a real one compared to the one Samsung are giving away must be mind blowing.

There is so much potential in them, to actually put you in the game and make you feel like you are there . The other side is how far will the games go away from being tech demos pretty much? I know capcom are making the new resident evil with vr in mind and so far the first person perspective makes you feel ill. But then imagine a game like elite or a space set game where your ship is there but it puts you in the galaxy so to speak. Or if they crack it, a fps which does it.

Proper vr is a while away but if they get it right it will be fantastic. If they phone it in especially on consoles then it will be failurea away from as you say the dedicated gamers.

Soma's story was interesting but wasn't very scary at all.

Looking forward to Outlast 2.

Have you used VR yet?

No one I've seen who's used a VR headset has said it's a fad. It's absolutely brilliant.

Not flawless of course, but it's the biggest leap in games for 20 years with loads of other industries finding uses for it too.

It is so not a fad.

I tried a DK2 on Elite: Dangerous, and despite the screen door effect it was absolutely immense.

Had a go again with a consumer Rift, and it is so much better than the old DK2, but I can still see pixels, but no where near clear enough to be distracting when playing Elite.

The sense of scale it give that game is unbelievable. The immersion. It is the next step.

Heck it is so real there are vids of people moving around in VR demos and falling over because they tried leaning on a virtual table!

With Facebook investing serious money into the Rift, Valve and HTC putting money into Vive, Sony and its Playstation brand inversting in PSVR, Razr pushing their OSVR, Virtual Reality is a thing and not a passing fad. The tech that has gone into it to overcome the traditional problems of VR (motion sickness) are being overcome and it is getting ever closer to being something that can be used in many different situation.

Another thing to get properly excited about is Microsofts Holo-lens, which looks like it is going to be a special usable AR device in the future.

fair enough, lads....i'll try it at some point.

how's it for racing games? am really into Rollcage again (classic weapons racer from Psygnosis).

Not tried a racing game myself, but from all accounts it performs pretty well. The folk over at the Project Cars forum seem to be splooging themselves with how good it is - once they get all the config right.

Really getting into Dark Souls 3 now, but only managing to get an hour in here and there.

Started off quite easy I thought (for a souls game), but oh boy does it ramp up with the Farron Keep/Abyss Watchers section...

Currently exploring the Cathedral of the Deep at the moment.

Really liking it overall. It looks great and the score (music) is incredible!

Still, not a patch on the first one and far too linear in comparison as well.
