Computer games.

Getting on Silksong now - great game, as you'd expect. Amazing what such a simple premise and design achieves for gameplay.

Does feel hard, but they've forensically tuned the bosses. Like you get mashed a few times and your heart sinks a bit, feelings of CBA start to form, but then you realise it only has four telegraphed moves and isn't as bad as you thought. Some of the gauntlets are aggravating though, and there seems to be a lot of them (I'm still quite early in the game, just beaten Sister splinter).

As a laser scanning nerd, this is a really cool thing for them to have accomplished. I believe they were one of the early adopters of scanning their licensed tracks too back in the day.

It definitely won't be to 1mm though, no matter how much they say it is! Depending on the technique they used 5-10mm is more likely their limit. Still very impressive mind.

They claim 1-2mm via LiDAR, iRacing also claims 1-2mm accuracy for all their tracks which are also done via LiDAR.

I'm not knowledgeable enough on the subject to know if it's exaggerated or not, but i believe the first laser-scanned tracks (for commerical consumption) were done by iRacing in 2007ish and even back then they claimed 1-2mm accuracy.

That's my home 🥲

Grew up nearby, unfortunately don't have any machine that could run this game.

It will come to consoles eventually (2027ish most likely)

Is there any idea yet when the update is coming?

No info other than this year but id imagine it will come sooner rather than later given it was originally meant to come out in the 0.4 update

I'll admit I don't use LiDAR at all, but I've worked with laser scanners for years.

LiDAR is good for things like this, for mapping large areas of terrain quickly. In theory it will be 1-2mm, but in reality it will be missing a reasonable amount of graphical fidelity due to the way the data is captured, meaning there will be small gaps within the data. In practice sub 20mm would be amazing with LiDAR I'd say. Think a more detailed google maps kind of thing.

Laser scanning is very similar, but focuses on more precision and can truly give 1mm accuracy on a virtual model of an entire area, but is generally a bit slower to capture and the file size on an area that big would frankly be impossible for almost every pc to handle for them to build their map off.

In laymans terms there isn't much difference between the two, we are talking milimetres. But if you are building a bridge/skyscraper (or football stadium!) you absolutely want laser scanning over LiDAR.

Rebuilt my little home office/music area recently so have been playing through a few games.

Played though the 2015 Mad Max game, which is excellent. Open world set in the Mad Max universe, Batman Arkham series style fight mechanics and you can build your own Mad Max car. The driving, combat and vehicular combat are all great and it still looks great graphically for a near 11 year old game. Think I picked it up on offer for about £2 on Steam!

Also picked up this rather chilled puzzle game called 'Strange Antiquities' where you take control of a shop that sells curio's, charms and magic artifacts. Customers turn up and will ask for a certain item and you have to use a reference book to identify the correct item. It gets more complex as you go on and customers will just describe a problem they are having (terrible nightmares etc.) and you have to diagnose their issue and find a suitable charm or item to help them by consulting books on curses, wiccan symbols & gemstone types.

There's an overarching story around the town you are in, people going mad and flocks of ravens attacking people and you pick up maps of the town and various places to explore (it's UI & text based rather than actually exploring yourself) It's all very Lovecraftian.

Despite it looking like a bit of an old Flash game, I actually really enjoyed it. It's a nice change of pace if you fancy something more slow and chilled.
Oh, and you can pet the cat!

Pick up an n64 with 4 controllers (£££) and get
Mario 64
Mario kart
Diddy Kong racing
Whichever Football games you like.

And then the game that changed the very fabric of multiplayer games forever... Goldeneye.

I recently bought a n64 4 controllers and a 64bit cartridge that you can install roms on.

Cost me about £100 and i can now play every n64 game, with no issues whatsoever and it doesn't take up much room (so it keeps the mrs happy).
