Computer games.

As someone old enough to have lived through the entire history of the console boom, from the 2600 to now...the original PS is the GOAT. Highly forward-thinking for the time, showing a hardware mindset they've lacked since.

After some advise.

My lads 7 next month. Wants an Xbox. Obviously his choice of games is going to be different from that of an adult, but I’ll probably have a go when I can, especially with GTA coming (at some point).

I’ve looked at the Xbox S 1TB. Xbox X 1TB looks a bit more pricey, and I’m not sure if it’s going to be worth it given what hell play, can’t see anything more demanding than EA FC.

Any feedback?

Pick up an xbox one, and unleash him on that, we're in the run up to a new gen of consoles (they reckon 18 months away?) as the ps6 is on its way as is whatever they'll name the new xbox. Xbox is good because it's backwards compatible so there's a load of games you can pick up for pennies. Story goes the ps6 will play 4, 5 and obviously 6 games. Getting him used to sports, racing, shooter or puzzle games will be a good base for when he's a bit older and you can splash some big cash on a console. The new xbox is allegedly going to be a high 'premium machine'.

Nintendo is more kid centric, which is a shame because they've been a great games market contributor and having 3 rivals go to market would keep the other two fresh minded instead of focused on one another. ebay sells bundles of games for a good value, playstation a slight premium, so can pick up hundreds of hours of entertainment for ten or twenty quid. What's nuts is the official used controller market. Someone made millions of knockoff ps3 controllers and flooded the market with em. Oh and 3rd party work well on all consoles can cost hundreds.

Not sure where you can get 'Sensible soccer' now, but the original is a work of art, should be in the Louvre.

Pick up an n64 with 4 controllers (£££) and get
Mario 64
Mario kart
Diddy Kong racing
Whichever Football games you like.

And then the game that changed the very fabric of multiplayer games forever... Goldeneye.

Thanks both for the feedback. He currently has a Switch, and his uncle has a N64 which he loves, and he has offered it to us, but his friends have started playing Xbox which is why he wants one.

Xbox One is a shout, but I’m wary of newer games not being available on it. I know that the new consoles are coming next year, but I’m hoping I’ve got a couple more years before I have to shell out for another.

1600 sq km of the Eifel region surrounding the Nurburgring has been scanned and will be available to drive free roam in AC Evo. That is a pretty crazy achievement to have such a large and spectacular area laser scanned within 1mm accuracy.

As a laser scanning nerd, this is a really cool thing for them to have accomplished. I believe they were one of the early adopters of scanning their licensed tracks too back in the day.

It definitely won't be to 1mm though, no matter how much they say it is! Depending on the technique they used 5-10mm is more likely their limit. Still very impressive mind.

Worth checking which specific Xbox his mates have - not sure how online gaming works between Xbox One and the later Series X etc. Some titles may be cross-compatible others may not be.

If he's playing online remember you'll be shelling out for GamePass every month - Price has gone up but it still offers pretty good value though with it including day one releases on a lot of big titles.
