Computer games.

Started playing The last of us' Well it aint no uncharted though its made by the same ppl,,, the post apocolyptic landscape is something you have seen before many times and you dont get more than a pistol for ages..That said, it does hold your attention and the combat bits can be quite difficult...just wish it couid have more uncharted like puzzles.

1. Diminishing returns: Something about triangles used in the graphics not a noticeable difference from last generation.
2. Next gen will be multiplatform: Something about it being similar to PC.
3. No demos to get excited about.
4. Can't trust the demos that they put out in the big ps4 reveal. Barely showed any gameplay bar Watchdogs.
5. Console wasn't made for us: wasn't made because we're missing out on great new tech, but because they're trying to recover losses from ps3.

I can sum it up in one point (this goes for Xbox One as well)

UNDERWHELMING.

Not arsed about the single player in cod, that just a bonus. Why I buy cod? for the SPLIT-SCREEN modes. Me and my husband are still into the old fashioned way of playing on the couch, cant afford two consoles and two games. Gears of War and Halo is great for this. The only issue i'm having in split-screen is the lag. :(

You need to buy an LG tv with Dual Play glasses. Means you can both play your games in a split screen style, but of you wear the glasses, you both get the full screen to view.

Sony came into my work today, they had a PS4 and I had a go on it. They only had the platform game, knack, it was quite good, it reminded me of Ratchet and Clank / Crash Bandicoot, that sort of thing. It wasn't one of the games I would have ordered with the console, but it played quite well, I could see it being addictive.

I have been back and forth over getting one as soon as it comes out, but I have to admit, holding the controller and playing it has swayed me. I spent a large portion of the rest of the day looking at websites and the different bundles! :-)

I just read Engadget's PS4 review and they are fawning over it.

"near" the beginning of the review they say this:

Sony opted to imbue the PS4 with an octa-core, x86 AMD "Jaguar" CPU and Radeon GPU capable of 1.84 teraflops of compute power. That arrangement alone makes the console more immediately accessible to developers, as these components are very similar to what you'll find inside high-end PCs.

Sorry, not even close to highend PC's. Just look down the Radeon list to see how far down to get to the GPU with approx the same processing power. It's the HD 7850 and the HD 7790. Those go between $100-150 depending on where you shop. I get that the top 'o the line GPU alone costs more than the PS4, but lets not misrepresent.

The PS4 does not compare to the high-end PC's. More like a mid-range all-in-one without a screen.

And who's taking bets on how long until hackers....sorry, modders, have PS4/Xbox One games running on a PC??

Dylan, some people still like having a console. PC vs Console is a stupid argument -- they are different. I like both. I have both. I play both.

That much should be bloomin' obvious.
I used to be a big PC gamer, but to be honest the gaming experience on a console is immensely superior because they're designed for consoles from the ground up.

But anyway, for all new graphical power and technology around, Super Marioworld is still The Greatest Videogame ever created.

A new Uncharted is in development for PS4 which is great news.

Also, there is a new single player DLC coming soon for The Last of Us. Can't wait for that...

Really?

I was in the midst of console 'wars' when I was a kid (ooo, looking at over 20 years now. Thanks for making me feel really old).

I know the joys of consoles. I grew up with a Mega Drive and a PC in the house. My mates had (between them) a NES, Master System, SNES. One friend even got the Jaguar and a 3DO (he was a rich kid). I remember the wars between which console was best very well.

Thing is, it really was a competition as each console had real identity. With the advent of these new consoles there is none. They are just mid-range PC's in a customized box. Much like Apple Macs are now just PC's that run a different OS. For all of the games you want to play (bar a couple of exclusives for each platform) it really comes down to brand loyalty. All of the games are all cross platform now. Thus really negating the need for having actual gameplay reasons for picking one over the other.

Now the big arguements over specs (which is ridiculous when I remember the true spec wars, specs which would make an actual difference to how the game looked. I remember Gunstar Hero's breaking all kinds of ground as they got the Mega Drive to display 128 colours when they system was only capable of 64......at a time when the SNES was mopping up with it's 256 colour display ability. Red Zone on the Mega Drive giving FMV clips from a cartridge, and no hardware acceleration. The SNES giving the amazing 3D world in Mario Kart. Donkey Kong Country and its rich, colourful world. I am talking REAL innovation).

No, for some reason, innovation is now seen as making something more realistic, even though as 'real' as it feels it is actually a million miles from being realistic. I think that 'game' consoles should get back to games. Either give us some truly kick ass hardware to actually get excited about, or get back to making games be games, rather than a pale imitation of real life.

We are well into the law of diminishing returns on power vs fidelit, so to use that as a base for claiming PC superiority is silly.

Even the current generation is hard to tell the difference between PC/console, even though the console may be doing a fraction of the work of the PC card. I bet if you ran a similar PS4/XB1 vs PC comparison, didn't reveal which was which, and asked 100 people which was the better and by how much, they'd struggle to tell any discernable difference.
