It's the same people who spent thousands on a 4k tv even though there was nothing to watch in 4k.
As you say, more money than sense, but every time a new slightly better version of something comes out it means the older slightly worse version comes down in price. I've got a ps4 but I'm quite tempted by a £100 XB1. I was hoping Wii U prices would drop further when the Switch came out but they stayed about £130.
Yeah I mean it's not a new phenomenon, but usually there's a selling point - even the ridiculous 'new' 3DSXL put on extra buttons and features, improved the 3D effect etc. to give it an upgrade sell to the public. But this One X... it seems to me to just be an upgrade on paper rather than a practical one.
