Colin Harvey

I saw him hobbling into the Royal last year. Even at 55 I never had the guts to say what a privilege it was to watch him as a kid. My overriding impression, as a young kid was his ability to read the game. All these recent midfield icons couldn't hold a candle to him. I was working away in Canada when my wife called to say he'd gotten the managers job. I was so made up for him. I honestly thought we would have a dynasty but it wasn't to be.

My old mans favourite player after Alex Young, he said he'd never seen anyone more cultured on a football pitch. I understand he started to suffer with his vision and that heralded the end of his playing days, anyone know if that's true?
His eye trouble cleared up it was his hips that finished him .....
Colin was not his first name by the way it was his middle name -
Also only for a mix up in time of a trial game by LFC we grabbed him thank goodness;)

Howard tended to play more right and Colin more left. But they played as a triangle and interchanged. If Bally or Howard went forward Colin would be deeper. It was just such a fluent midfield. They just seemed to know where each other was.
I’m trying to think of a more recent player that was similar to Colin. I’m struggling but I guess Ray Wilkins was a similar sort of midfielder. The travesty was that Colin only got 1 England cap compared to Rays 83

A lot of that was who they played for and that Wilkins was from London (that made a difference). You'd also have to say, Harvey was unfortunately around where England were arguably the best in the world, whereas Wilkins played when they were not as good.

Was Harvey more graceful as a player than Kendall? Arteta like Harvey? Would you place Harvey above Kendall as a better player?

I would have thought Colin would have been given a job by the club in some capacity in the last few years, for example as a scout. I am sure Colin would have been able to recognise a talent when he saw one.

Back in 1990 I visited Liverpool for the first time. I managed to watch the team train at Bellefield and Mr. Harvey was very gracious to a visiting Canadian fan despite being near the end of his tenure as manager. A complete class act. I had my young cousin's autograph book with me and I was tasked with getting the one signature he was missing -- Neil McDonald. I was very hesitant to ask, but he promptly took the book, went inside and returned it with the signature. And to top it off, I went to Forest a couple of days later and McDonald scored -- albeit in a 3-1 loss.

I was just thinking that I'd probably give up a family jewel to have a one-on-one tour of Goodison with him. I didn't get one last time which is a shame as Labby was doing them, if I remember correctly. He then passed away a year later. Cherish the old school giants...life is short.

One of the greatest players to grace our team. Ball, Kendall, Harvey - it was not through being the third member of a trilogy - a holy trinity - each was a fabulous player in their own right, together they were pure magic.

Many think Bally was the best, others think Kendall, some think Harvey - it shows just how good they were that we debate who was the best. I can promise you each player was great because of the trilogy of the three. Colin Harvey absolute legend, one of the best ever. So thrilled that blues remember him with such affection.

A truly exceptional talent. Worked like a demon and passed like an angel. Loved watching him play the beautiful game so beautifully.

Thank you, Colin.

Tbh i would describe Ball Harvey and Kendall all were graceful.
Yes i think you could compare Harvey to Arteta but Colin was even better.
No Harvey and Kendall were both as good as each other
