As I pointed out the era of those midfields one lot the holy trinity played on mud bath pitches not the bowling green pitches Barcelona played on also no hatchet defenders or bite your legs midfielders also opposition wise that Spanish league the opposition teams were not of the standard of the old Division one teams .....I was having an argument with a RS mate about the holy trinity and I said their interplay, their awareness of each other and the rest of the team was entirely instinctive, telepathic even. I said I had only ever seen that level of interplay once since and that was the xavi, iniesta, messi triangle. He of course disputed this as he said that none of the three were as good as messi. I pointed out that I hadn’t claimed that they were but that the interplay was the same. He then went off one one of his RS tirades, ”if they were that good why were they so poor in Europe etc.”. So the argument was not settled, I just said was a fat sweaty blert and that his mum was a Tory [Poor language removed], so I feel I held the moral high ground on behalf of all Evertonians!
Was Alan Ball a Messi type player no totally different in playing roles, but imo Bally in his era was more special as the best box to box goalscoring midfielder I have ever seen, totally World Class in every department a midfielder could be on his day unbeatable!
In today's market our team could not be able to afford him, I was private during to see him home and away -
I witnessed that team of the holy trinity being clapped off away from home ...plus stood on the Kop when red fans were saying how good those three were, and after playing them off the park at 2-0 the title is yours .....
