I've alway's been sceptical, but what have we got to lose??

I'm throwing BLS' endorsement behind this

sorry to spoil the party but i don't like it. Would rather have a proper midfielder there who can receive the ball in tight spaces and then have seamus bombing past on the overlap. As the man said fullbacks are now the most potent attacking weapons in the modern game. Seamus is the perfect man for the job. also I don't buy this he can't defend rubbish. He has pace and is aggressive in the tackle, not to mention fiercely competitive. He can only get better the more he is played at full back.

No, they aren't. Just like in current football top coaches doesn't judge their centre forwards strictly on scoring goals...

Full backs in modern football are the players who's aften are the only ones who have a free space ahead of them, therefore their attacking is as important as defending.

And somebody mentioned Osman as a attacking midfielder - have mercy, he's even worse there than as RM these days, for reasons I am not should about, as theoretically it should fit him better than being a deeper playing central midfielder.

"Defenders are there to defend"
"No they aren't"

...Kay.

Neville and especially Hibbert defend better than Seamus do, rather than trying to mould him into Ashley Cole, i'm suggesting leaving defending to guys like Hibbo, and giving the more forward-thinking jobs to Coleman.

They're full backs, not full defenders. There are no rules on which positions have to defend more than others.

Loving Seamus. He must play. Sort it out Moyes / Sven / Curbs /whoever.

Don't care if it's FB or RM. He will galvanize a stale looking team IMO.

Yeah he looks decent on the right and seems like he can cause a few problems. Best we got in that position at the moment.

But what happened if he hplayed rw and had a few bad games there? Confidence could go..
The way he's been playing rb I wouldn't risk it. Would be even better if we had coleman rb with a natural rw??
Hopefully, if Landon comes back January we'll get to see Coleman and Donovan on one wing, with Baines and Pienaar on the other (y)

He should be there -- starting -- until Big Vic is back. Then if Seamie's played well, we've got options for the right, if he's not played well, then Vic is back to save the day. :P

I don't think his confidence would take a knock, especially if he was playing out of position. Remember the Benfica drubbing? His confidence was fine after that.

He knows his own ability, I think, hence him not being scared of going at people.

Coleman and Anichebe on the right was looking great in preseason. Should definately try it out in the Prem when young Vic comes back.

Thing about Shay though , an' Victor for that matter ; they are not exactly catching-pigeons , fast .

Shay makes up for it somewhat with being quick with the ball at his feet , while Victor ,....( Whom , incidentally , COULD be back for the Derby ) ,........

Pick your games with Shay , and watch the pennies come home to Daddy .

Stand on me .

broke a toenail, gone to casualty.

Did the Pitch Rescue come get him?

One thing that will always keep Americans off football - they will never accept something as silly as the Pitch Rescue. Two lads trotting out with a fold-up stretcher to carry a player off the pitch when everyone knows he's coming back on after three squirts of magic spray.

First off - we're Americans and we like things motorized so we use golf carts and small tractors, not camp cots.

Second - we expect our players to walk it off. If they come off on a golf cart, they best be off to the hospital or somewhere for x-rays.

End of tangential rant springing from silly comment.

Back to thread....
