Pepsi was invented here in North Carolina. However, if you are from the Western part of the state, most likely you are a coke person (in fact, you probably refer to all sodas as "coke"). In the Eastern portion, Pepsi is more popular. It's a bit like BBQ.

To me, Pepsi is a little too sweet (which is why it usually wins side by side, blind tastings). I tend to stick to water, though.

so if you want fanta orange you ask for coke ?
does that not get you a glass of coke?

where i was an apprentice in manchester they refered to all sodas as "mineral" e.g. can you get me a can of mineral when you go to the shop.
i'd never heard it before and have never heard it since.

Not sure how it is....they both cost the same, both have gimmecky marketing, both made with the same main ingrediants (water and HFCS)....just have different tastes. Oh yeah, and Coke leaves a film on my teeth whenever I used to drink it.

COOL. Can you choose which one? I'd probably choose Weird Science right now.

If you want a specific drink, you ask for it. But when you refer to sodas or pop or mineral, you say coke. I grew up on the West side of the state, and whenever I went to store, I might say "Do you want a coke?". The answer could be a simple "Yes" which meant you were getting coke. Or the answer could be "Yes, get me a Pepsi". I live in the Eastern part now, and I say soda, especially since my area has a lot of northern transplants.

The following link actually has a map out how American's refer to soft drinks.
