It isn't that simple though: if you're addicted to alcohol, you are often able to find suitable alternatives that are cheaper, which unfortunately fuels the habit.

You can't afford to drink expensive spirits, so you get onto drinking crap. Cocaine on the other hand, like many drugs, is an expensive habit that remains expensive.

A £30 bag is a £30 bag and when people become addicted it can quite quickly spiral into huge costs, often with significant debts, because it doesn't get cheaper.

So then what? This is why people who are on the coke or want to score are forced into other forms of criminal behaviour.

And its the same with drinking mate, once you run out of money and ale, you need to find more.

True. However, my point was that it is much easier for people to find an alternative to their chosen ale when money is tight: white lighting, cheap wine etc.

If you've snorted your £50 of lemo, it will cost you another £50 to get the same product, so financially it is can easily be far more destructive as a habit.

You also have the issue of dealers allowing credit, which itself then spirals into debt which has to be paid one way or the other. Where does the lead?

I'm not saying alcohol addition isn't destructive, it is, but from experience a cocaine or heroin addiction can have a much wider impact on society.

Like I said Kev my life my choice.The last time I had it was on my 50th I'm 53 now.I don't go out and look or crave for it.I have a few beers every night watching the footy/ tv and a pint last me an hour.I smoke 6 cigarettes a day so I am not arsed if anyone judges me.

Still do alcohol, but moderate intake now.
