Club Statement: Coronavirus

Speaking to RMC, French defensive midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin discussed the supposed lax approach taken by the British government to COVID-19 and made his predictions on when we might get football back.
“They said to me that it was a bit “relaxed,” that they (Britain) had not really understood how grave this thing is. In the end they decided. But like in France, everyone is not respecting the rules given out by the Prime Minister. It will take some time to enter people’s heads a bit. They are going to have to adapt and see that they don’t have any other choice but to remain at home owing to how serious this is.”
“They will take the best possible decision. Football comes second here. We are going to have to adapt. The club has given us the date of 17th April to come back to training. That seems to me maybe a little bit early. We are prepared to play until August if that is what is needed. I know that it will be difficult with certain players’ contracts coming to an end in June. I hope that it will be postponed a little bit longer because then I would be able to play again this season.”

If we don’t find a vaccine of effective treatment in the next few months then I suspect next season could be in jeopardy as well. We’ll be in and out of lockdown over the course of the next 18 months most likely.

Don't hold your breath on a vaccine being available in the next few months, mate:

Even if scientists can celebrate having developed a vaccine this year, there is still the massive job of being able to mass-produce it.

It means, realistically, one would not be ready until at least the middle of next year. All of this is happening on an unprecedented timescale and using new approaches to vaccines, so there are no guarantees everything will go smoothly.

Remember there are four coronaviruses that already circulate in human beings. They cause the common cold, and we don't have vaccines for any of them.

  • The Telegraph reports that the Premier League is tentatively scheduling a plan which involves games starting from June 1, behind closed doors, which would allow it to finish the season in time for the start of the new season on August 8.
  • Sky Sports News has been told a return date of June 1 is one of several dates put forward for consideration, but clubs did not discuss fixture modelling in detail during an emergency call on March 19.
  • Clubs will not be asked to agree to a decision until it receives a greater understanding of when the pandemic will reach its peak in the UK.
  • The Premier League will not put any strain on the emergency services, in particular ambulances, and must adhere to the requirements of a stadium safety certificate, even for games behind closed doors.
  • Competitions, including the FA Cup, outline requirements for medical professionals on site, such as club doctors and, in some cases, offer compensation for ambulances.

Unbelievably idiotic.

We all know what F.A. stands for .

Why do you reckon it’s idiotic, mate?

Sounds from that report that nothing has been decided but they are considering all options. Probably the best approach, in my
opinion, given the circumstances.

it’s just not on.

Wayne Rooney saying we need to finish this season because Liverpool should have the title, even if it means we don’t play a season next year.

Some people actually thought he’s one of us lol He is and always will be a gobshite.

Rooney also has another vested interest in the league season finishing though, Derby have been on a decent little run of late and are only 5 points off the playoffs. They could yet go up.

oh hello - fancy seeing you here.

You’re like a cyber rumplestiltskin.

mention Liverpool or finishing the premier league and you appear just like magic.

You’re absolutely right, what with the plethora of things going on in the world right now, you’d think my tastes would be more diverse!
