As a side issue from yesterdays game was the strange performance of the referee:unsure: . IMO he got most playing associated decisions right, in that respect he had a good game but, and this is a big but that no one has touched on, why will we be facing a charge from the FA for failing to control our players, we had six players booked yesterday from seventeen fouls yet Arsenal had no bookings from thirteen fouls, a very curious anomaly, and one that could cost the club dear:angry:  It is incredibily that Arsenal, displaying all the manners of a spoiled brat, never got one card waved in their direction. Lescott got one booking for pulling down a gooners player, despite the gooner hanging on to him as proven by the cameras, he went down the other end and got pulled down himself and just a free kick given, no consistency of decision at all when it came to cards.

Will the referee's assessor pick that up, not on your bloody life. he even booked two players for the goal celebration, I ask you why in the heat of that moment, the [Poor language removed]

Comments lads:)

i noticed in a report this morning that we had 6 bookings.

i'm sure i heard andy gray saying lescott was booked, but when the arse player commited the same offence it was just a free kick. go figure.

2 booked for the goal celebration? well... sounds crazy but the rules are you can't dive in to the crowd. seems the whole team were in the gwladys at one point. so no real complaint against the ref there.. just the rule book.

I thought the ref had a decent enough game overall but six bookings was daft. It was strange really as most of his decisions to actually award free kicks (or not) seemed correct but his choice of who to book and who not to did seem very odd.

I thought the ref did well yesterday i was very impressed that he did not book vaughan early on knowing he was a young lad trying hard to impress and match the commitment of his more experienced colleauges.

Lets face it to beat Arsenal to beat arsenal you have to put the boot in and be comitted in this day an age that level of commitment will almoest gaurnetee you at least four bookings its a fine line, but aggression, commitment and all around sliding bodies to get the bals are the only way to beat arsnal and make them hesitate enough not to rip teams apart.

Lehman is really poor sport couldnt beleive his reaction when vaughan went for the fifty/fifty ball i thought the lad reacted very maturaly to be berated by more senior pros. Could you imagine if that was Dunc in that praticular incident six game ban me thinks. Anyhow i think if you get six bookings in a game its an automatic F.A. fine!

I think it was crazy that no Arsenal players were cautioned and we some how managed six. It is incredible that the laws of the game demand we had two players booked for a last minute goal celebration, some refs turn a blind eye to that rule but a disgusting display of petulance and poor sportsmanship by Lehmann isn't covered by any rule, bloody crazy:angry:

I hear you Monty, theres no getting away from it some bookings are farcical, like celebrating goal celbrations. I think clubs like ours whos fans are praticularly close to pitch are vicitmised far more than teams whos fans are further away like at united. I think chelsea and ourselves have the fans closest to the pitch.

I really dislike Lehman a very bad sportsman so im am taking comfort in the fact that his cornflaks wont taste nice this morning after conceading a late one. Have to say wenger was very magnanmous in his comments after the game if you remember after we drew at their place he ripped us apart.

An after note wacthing match of the day last night it was clear goddison was rocking, i noticed that the Riverside and Ewood park were virtually empty, personally id rather have players booked for celerating after being built up by our fans support than to have our team playing in the grave yards of stadiums that thise two gorunds apeared to be yesterday! The balance i feel is being restored we are a big club and always will be a big club (Mr Bentiez can take lessons on how not to get stuffed by Arsanal at home), they can give away as many as many tickets as they like theyl never have a goodison or be an everton!

Did anyoone here Carsley being interviewd after the game he was taking the mich out of AJ. Asked if he thought AJ should play on Saturday for England Cars said he would play Nugent. Any conspiracy theroists!

I think the rule regarding celebrations is a load of crap but ya can't blame the ref for that, the distinct difference between the two times is that our players get up straight away and get on with the game whereas Arsenal players roll around like they have been shot and making it look worse and therefore.. bookings.

one thing I think the ref got DEAD wrong was the vaughan incident, the ball was there for the taking and vaughan was well in his rights to try to get it, so he shouldn't have been talked to by the ref, but not only that but lehman actually kicked vaughan and got away scot free, now surely the rules say that that offence is a straight red?

meh, whatever... we WON!

I was going to write something about how great a game I thought he had, compared to some that we see regularly. I'd take issue with Rob's view on the Vaughn incident. Having seen it on the TV now, I would say it was fully deserving of a booking. He went in studs-up when he could see the keeper coming down.

Having said that, of course Lehmann should have been booked or sent off, so again you could argue that the ref did well to keep it calm, and I agree that Vaughn was very mature.

As for the celebration, I didn't realise we had two booked then - I thought it was just Anichebe. Again you could ignore it, but if that's something they have been told to keep an eye on (like Cahill's shirt) then he can't do much about.

Anyway, Lehmann got his at the end and deservedly so, playacting ponce.

Regardless of the result, I thought Clattenburg had a very good game and I think he's one of the better referee's in the Premiership.

I think one of the things I like about him is that he is engaging with the players and doesn't act as if he's above them. I thought that he got most of the decisions right (yes, after seeing the replay, it looked like Lehmann hit the ball first before falling on AJ) and that when a player needed a talking to, he did it in a calm manner and even let the player talk back to him in conversation, actually listening to what the player had to say, even if it was bollocks.

More referees could stand to emulate his on field demeanor. In the games I've seen, Clattenburg doesn't seem to want to be the center of attention which is what a few EPL refs have a problem with.

17 fouls 6 yellows 13 fouls no yellows, that has to be an imbalance. I agree that most of his decisions were spot on a part from the bookings where clearly different criterion were used by the ref.

I certainly agree about the bookings imbalance but that happens from time to time with every referee.

I wouldn't be surprised if he looked back at the match and wondered how he didn't book one Arsenal player much less booked 5 or 6 Everton players.
