Clapping Naismith

When I was a kid being taken to the match in the late 60s, people often clapped a good goal against us or youd hear "taken, la/lad" from those around. Noone forensically examined why or said "what are you clappin'/sayin that for - its a sign of weakness ?" A reflex gesture is what it is. If people had have given Naismith the v sign or a load of verbals, by some reasoning on here, we'd have given Norwich a better game. We wouldn't...we were garbage. It seems views are polarised on what should/shouldn't have happened. Personally, Id much rather appreciate a fleeting gesture of goodwill than criticise it and also preserve my wrath for more important issues from the other night. Theres enough horrible in ya face attitude to go round elsewhere...and a nice gesture doesn't make us a patsy.

There's always been a Manc-Scouse rivalry mate. It's more about the two sets of people rather than the football clubs themselves.
Of course there has but as I said when I was a kid in the 60's kopites hated us more than Man U which was understable, somewhere along the way the newer generations switched that main rivalry to Man U

He doesn't require an explanation but he would like a few more tangible highs

Yes more highs would be appreciated by all...When I was twelve, Everton broke my heart most Saturdays and still do.

When we do enjoy success, it's worth hundred times as much to us than your generic telly supporting Man Utd / L'Pool / fan
Sportsmanship. Not a word you hear much these days. Sadly.

Replace sportsmanship with business under the Sky era...win at all cost football. dive, cheat and even bite

I'm sure Maradona cherishes his W C winners medal despite his hand of god goal.
Nice guys come 2nd , unfortunately like it or not this is true. Give me winners any day.

We were gash. We never looked like scoring so I just can't see the problem or what difference it would've made.
Ronnie didn't seem bothered, I'm pretty sure the players wouldn't have been bothered so don't know what the fuss is. It wasn't a riot, nobody got killed, there wasn't pitch battles. If that's as controversial as it gets being an Everton fan, that's fine by me.

Brother, do you remember the great Brain Labone (probably the greatest Evertonian) could you imagine him cherishing a winners medal knowing he deliberately cheated. On the other hand it would take pride and place in someone like Phil Thompson / Emlyn Hughes trophy cabinet. To me winning is important but how you win is more so.

Maybe you should take your lad across the park if you carve and desire to win at all cost is eating you up so much.

Just a note on Maradona the history books will show all is success but have you seen the bloke lately. A degenerate junking with his reputation in tatters.

Karma at it's finest

If you look at the replay really closely you can see Peter Reid clapping Maradona as he skipped past him and put him on his arse...the swine.

If you don't understand why Naismith was clapped last night and why things like this have and will continue to happen then I've got no time for you to be honest.
Bet you so wouldn't clap if he hit a fa cup final winner against us in the last minute of extra time eh would you ? Eh ?
