City Break

Went to Vilnius a few years ago.

Noticed loads of graffiti on a few walls/buildings that said 'G-Spot'.

Asked a few locals what it was all about...

Turns out it was a big marketing campaign by the tourism board who coined the term 'The G-Spot of Europe'.

No one knows where the hell it is but it's amazing when you get there ?

I’ve been Vilnius. Nice little cheap one that.

There’s a massive Tony soprano statue at the train station as well.

Difficult to get flights at the best of times but I'd thoroughly recommend it. My Mrs is Lithuanian and the history that place has is unreal. Been through a lot that country but always up for a bev.

And yes the Soprano train station place is mad. Theyve also got a park that houses all old Lenin statues from the USSR.

Thoughts on guided tours when going on a city break?

For eg, Auschwitz-Birkenau tour while in Krakow

Or do you prefer just to get somewhere and 'explore' the city without any planning?
I don't know if you live in a city yourself, but if you do, think of the touristy bits and think about how often you as a native go there. I suspect the answer is never or very rarely. If you get a guided tour you'll almost always go on the "theme park" aspects of a city. It's much better to just wander. For instance, in Prague if you go around Old Town you'll only see tourists, but if you cross the river and head towards, say, Holesovice and Stromovka you'll only see locals. Which do you think is the "real" Prague?

Over extending on the tram/metro?

2 were metro related. One for not having a ticket (we were stupid, didn't know where to buy them and got on a tram without one) the second because we got the tickets but didn't know we had to validate them. The third time was actually quite an embarrassing event that happened recently. I will tell the story on here some time I am sure
