Lisbon is good if you go off-season, too busy for me in the summer now. We tend to go in Sept, it's still very warm

I have been fined no less than 3 times in Prague. That city hates me

Pisa, nice mix of tourism and local culture. Lots of very good little restaurants. Best pizza I ever had in that city.

Apart from the obvious ones I recommend Bordeaux highly.

Easy to get to, lovely looking city, loads of culture, great food, longest shopping street in the world and not touristy enough that it makes you feel like you are abroad rather than being surrounded by British stuff. I love the place.

Yeah would really like to go back to York at some point. Been about 5 years now I think!

I spent 2 years travelling around Europe and my top 3 cities are.

1. Prague
2. Budapest
3. Krakow

Them 3 stand out

Heard good things about Krakow, very cheap by the looks of it too

Porto is one of my favourite places. Lovely place,nice people,nice food and of course the port

Got everything you could want for a city break, hasnt it.

The company I work for opened an office there a few months ago, so it's not impossible that we will at some point

We're hoping to go in sept with out toddler for the first time, so much more relaxed there when it comes to kids

I think it will be our fourth visit

Rome... Awesome in the true sense of the word.

Rome is indeed spectacular and so much to see and do. Went there back in January and had a few days in Naples as well which is also good but a bit rough and ready in a interesting way. Ghent as someone else mentioned is really good and a beer paradise of course

Thoughts on guided tours when going on a city break?

For eg, Auschwitz-Birkenau tour while in Krakow

Or do you prefer just to get somewhere and 'explore' the city without any planning?
