Conservatives the world over love being outraged by things that don’t happen.
I have never genuinely heard anyone being offended by the term ‘Happy Christmas’
I know it’s a L O N G watch, but deffo worth it if you have the time.
At least where I grew up, there was a large battle initiated by the Jewish community over the whole thing. They didn't like Christmas carols in the school chorus and what not. It was a First Amendment thing, as far as they were concerned, where they argued the school was pushing Christian propaganda.
So we ended up making dreidels and coloring menorahs in school as a 'cultural awareness' activity, though phrases like that didn't exist at the time. The irony was that compelling us to engage in these activities was exactly what they argued schools should not be doing in the first place. Apparently, propaganda is fine so long as it's theirs, as the explicitly Christian songs disappeared from the curriculum.
With no personal dog in the hunt, all I could do was marvel at the ridiculous nature of the whole thing.
