The murder vans are progressive and not concerning in the slightest!

MSM mate, don't believe 'em.

Any thoughts on this @hktoffee?

Feels simplistic to me. Sure the media will play a role, but is there a genuine potential issue. I'm curious to know if China depicts similar issues with Western tech, for example.

Mutual paranoia and mistrust if you will.
Paranoia can be generated fairly easily. Be interesting to see if the US try banning AliExpress. Their app is fairly widespread I'm sure the general public can be convinced it's harvesting all of their data.

It (social media) is all banned, IIRC. TikTok is as well.
TikTok in China and in the west aren't one and the same according to my mate who works for ByteDance here in the UK. They're run separately too.

In terms of Chinese social media, it's WeChat and Sina Weibo that are in the main players, with the western apps being banned or heavily restricted.

Do they not think we (the west) are a great bunch of lads then?
In a general sense, TikTok in China is aimed to providing education and support - it's far more culturally mature in the sense of what it shows.

I can't vouch for any of this - just what my friend says. In a general sense, the platforms in China allow far more control and manipulation by the state.

Apparently, WeChat is a like a combination of WhatsApp, Uber, Amazon, Apple Pay, a news outlet and your supermarket.
