Excited to see this lad Saturday hopefully. Stood out at Saints from what I'd seen and remember thinking he'd be a good Everton player.
Definitely talented and seems to put the effort in. Granted, was only a few full games I've watched him

The blue room podcast had Tim Vickery on today talking about Charley, his career so far, type of player and what his situation was with Flamengo and why it didn’t work out there.

It was an interesting and informative listen, even if I don’t always warm to Vickey.

Another one Thelwell has had on his radar for a couple of years, tried to sign a few times, finally got his man and turns out to be a magnificent player, vindicating Big Kev's approach further still?

Actually posted similar on Bluesky earlier today. After a few games of people acting like Funes Mori was great (his positioning was exactly as bad as Vickery had said it would be, but it was just a series of those "we should've been punished, but the opponents missed the net with the shot" type moments, so people acted like it wasn't happening), Vickery was like "yeah I guess he's not as bad as I'd been expecting, as he hasn't had multiple red cards and been directly at fault for multiple goals... yet," and people acted like that was an admission that he was wrong.

This is all pretty clearly remembered because like Vickery, I (and the rest of South America) had seen Funes Mori play at least a couple dozen games, almost every one of which saw Funes Mori do exactly what Vickery was describing (getting caught out of position, committing an act of violence to end the attack, somehow not getting sent off for it, then acting proud of what he'd done). Funes Mori kept it fairly clean at the start, but then there were things like a run where we gave up something like 5 goals in a week where his poor positioning was obviously at fault, then later that embarrassing sending off, where people just shut up about him rather than admit that they were wrong the whole time.

I think it had more to do with disliking Tim Vickery than people rating Funes Mori. I don’t know what it is but the guy is just unlikeable for some reason. He’s a bit of a hipster know it all.

Yeah problem is he's right way way more often than not, which means probably smart to listen to what he says about any lad coming in from SA

Listening to soton supporter on you tube they were told when he signed he was likened to
Lampard but he disagrees he also says we will love him he has got everything
Including passion in bucket loads I'm really looking forward to seeing this boy

An Argentinian version of Reidy will do me...although nowadays Charly won't get away with remotely half of what he did. But, yeah, passion and a bit of 'controlled' snide wouldn't go far amiss. No longer nice guy walkovers, we've been that for far too long.

He’s got a very good reputation.

Recall when we signed Funes Mori and he called him out as being a bad signing. Even after a few of our fans started goading him cos he played a couple of half decent games.

Awful player.

Vickery is sound IMO. Very informative, first to admit and self-deprecate when he gets something wrong

Getting waaaay ahead of yourself, there. Tomorrow he can man a programme stand. For the derby he can be a steward. Then he might get into the bench for an U18 game. Then the U21s. Finally five games on the first team bench before a late substitute appearance. Then… MAYBE… a start.

And don’t forget any injury puts him right back to programme stand duty.

….pleasantly surprised if he starts, I expect he’ll be on the bench and I expect him to be introduced at some point.

I’m really not sure what the trigger point is for the permanent deal; whether it’s no of starts or no of appearances. Also, if it’s only PL games that count.
