Changing Perceptions

I think our expectation has to be tempered by a bit of realism here. Dier, Alli and Kane would cost an absolutely unfathomable amount that would far outweigh the value they would bring and even still it would be highly doubtful they would want to come.

Obviously we have a bit more money to play with now, but I don't believe the "enough money to buy messi if we want" shouts.

I think the importance of our pursuit of Monchi and why we are prioritising chasing him is shown here, as even though we seemingly have a lot more money to play with, we recognise that we still are at a level where we have to find value in our transfers.

This.

If anyone is foolish enough to believe that Everton are in a position to buy the likes of Messi for his true value and the pay the sort of wages he would demand they are in for a very rude awakening.

I have no doubt that a few players that cost decent money will come in but as I pointed out there is not enough wriggle room based on previous years wages paid plus the allowable % to massively increase wages paid out unless there is a huge uplift in commercial income ( owners money doesn't count) Is anyone aware of any new commercial deals that will frank a huge growth in income?

The likes of Man City and Chelsea to a degree changed things overnight and had owners whose wealth makes near enough all other owners in the PL look like paupers? I have now doubt thatEverton now have a wealthy man in charge but I suspect we are looking at a model more in line with what's happened elsewhere in Liverpool as opposed to other parts of Lancs or indeed SW London

Actually, if you read your own comments Zat, that's exactly what you say...

As has been mentioned here already:

1. There is nothing wrong with keeping a squad player on, especially someone relatively senior and who already knows the club. Too much change could see us take until December to settle.

2. We are still in June! If by the end of the summer, we are sitting here with Koeman and Gibson as the only signings, I will join you in the fume fest.

3. Building a team that is able to compete at the top is a long process; look at the Man City and Chelsea models as examples. Some average players signed there in the beginning of their new eras.

Please have some patience and get behind the manager and the players.

Different threads and different topics.

Im stating here that we supposedly can buy amyone we want so if thats true then lets go for butland, kane, dier and alli.

Thats unrelated to koeman, martinez or whatever else.

Why not save the money in wages and put a youngster like Davies or Dowell on the bench. I truly feel they'll offer more next season than Gibson and wages are much lower.

I think everybody is having a go at Zatara for just raising a point.

Nobody is expecting Galacticos. There is no uproar. I personally just feel Gibson has nothing to offer a team with ambition that wants to be in the top 4, or as @The Esk raised beautifully, let's aim for the title next season as an ambitious goal.

Thats the thing, where we can we should be bringing through the youth and giving them games (as @Groucho said) rather than extending Gibsons deal. Its a wasted squad place.

We should then seek to add a few top class players. Im not saying to sign Bale or Ronaldo but surely Butland is reasonable + we apparently have big money to spend on top players....are dier, alli and kane out of our reach -- if so then we "cant sign who we want"....

I think Kane, Ali and Dier are all over rated, didnt even come 2nd in the league and got less points then RM Everton. Do you know how hard it is to buy 1 Spurs player let alone 3.
Can spend the money they would cost on equally as good if not better players

Id take Butland tho, good player and going to be Englands number 1.

Zat has handed out many slaps here and y'all reeling from his game.

Zat = street level game.

So Zat and Kit are the new Dave and Bizaro ay. Dedicating your life to trolling blues. Reminds me of a bloke I know whos ma let's him stay up to watch smack down ppv events till 4am and has 9 dvds about this scouser who gets away with assaults in night clubs.

I think that quote has been taken out of context, nobody was saying we were able to buy him, only that that was the type of money available to Everton going forward. The rest of the quote said something like not that he'd come here like. Nobody really knows how much is available but it's nice to be able to dream.

We apparently have a fortune to spend (in fact an ITK posted we could actually afford Messi if we wanted)
Most estimates, including those seemingly leaked by RK's agent, put our budget at around £100 million excluding player sales. A massive increase if true and cause for great optimism but it doesn't put us into the Messi league financially and even if it did players on that level wouldn't come anyway as we just finished 11th.

Would you want to cheat football manager style, and buy every boss player just to win the league like Chelsea/city or do it slowly with the right ambitious manager and players? Buying success hasn't always worked look at Leeds, and even Newcastle last season. They spent over a hundred million if I remember, to be relegated.

Plus, even if we had all the money in the world players would still pick other teams than us at the moment because of champions league, preferred managers, living in London, bigger stadiums etc

If in 3 seasons were not up there in the top 4, then yeah let's start throwing the cash around if Morishi is still here. Until then I'm excited to see what happens and hope we build an exciting young squad to match our ambitions.

Now now mate. I do no such things. Read my posts in here again if needed and you will see that I am also advocating patience to Zatara.

I just saw no point in extending Gibson's contract for two more seasons. Whatever the reasoning behind it, it in no way is in fitting with all the talk of ambition and going for top 4. Probably counter productive as a message to the fanbase.

Having the means and ambition to sign those players is entirely different to their clubs having the desire to sell and the players having the desire to join.
