That Messi fella did alright tonight, lets buy him.

Because that depth player has nothing to offer a team with ambition challenging the top four. Only a mid table team.

Correct. Which is what we all are reading daily of this 'new Everton'.

It's a process. I don't see the point in wasting 4-7 million on an English player to do what Gibson will do. He already helps with the number of spots can play and being a UK player to push that number up. Much rather use that money toward a bid on a starting 11 player and have Gibson ride the bench.

We aren't going to become Galacticos overnight. If ever. Making a sensible decision like resigning a decent veteran player to fill a bench seat shouldn't be cause for this much uproar.

Actually, if you read your own comments Zat, that's exactly what you say...

Personally i think Koeman would be a disgraceful appointment.

Total lack of ambition.

Hardly an exciting or ambitious appointment. Id rather have Howe and thats saying something.

Quite frankly theres no other way to describe this other than a total disgrace.

As has been mentioned here already:

1. There is nothing wrong with keeping a squad player on, especially someone relatively senior and who already knows the club. Too much change could see us take until December to settle.

2. We are still in June! If by the end of the summer, we are sitting here with Koeman and Gibson as the only signings, I will join you in the fume fest.

3. Building a team that is able to compete at the top is a long process; look at the Man City and Chelsea models as examples. Some average players signed there in the beginning of their new eras.

Please have some patience and get behind the manager and the players.

Why not save the money in wages and put a youngster like Davies or Dowell on the bench. I truly feel they'll offer more next season than Gibson and wages are much lower.

I think everybody is having a go at Zatara for just raising a point.

Nobody is expecting Galacticos. There is no uproar. I personally just feel Gibson has nothing to offer a team with ambition that wants to be in the top 4, or as @The Esk raised beautifully, let's aim for the title next season as an ambitious goal.

I think our expectation has to be tempered by a bit of realism here. Dier, Alli and Kane would cost an absolutely unfathomable amount that would far outweigh the value they would bring and even still it would be highly doubtful they would want to come.

Obviously we have a bit more money to play with now, but I don't believe the "enough money to buy messi if we want" shouts.

I think the importance of our pursuit of Monchi and why we are prioritising chasing him is shown here, as even though we seemingly have a lot more money to play with, we recognise that we still are at a level where we have to find value in our transfers.

We need depth to our squad; that means retaining squad players. If we can purchase two or three marquee players and another 1 or 2 lads that have some serious potential or are bargain steals, anything is possible.

Look at Leicester. You don't need to clear out the entire team and start with a skeleton squad in order to build a team. In fact, that's the worst way to build a 'team' really...
