Does anyone know which ITK said we can afford anyone? I've not seen anyone say that, may have missed it though.
I've read papers and ITK's saying we will prob have around £100m to spend, which is great. There's a world of difference between £100m and limitless funds though and I think Zat has either lost it or is trolling. I'm going option 2.
Personally, regardless of all the rumours about us having money to spend I'm just reigning my excitement in until we actually start buying good players and holding on to our better ones.
If we have a decent amount of money to spend but not mega bucks a lot of people are lining themselves up for dissapointment and I'd imagining a good vaulting.

I think you do miss out the key caveat to what he said "we can sign Messi if we wanted but he wouldn't come".
Even if we had City megamoney (which may or may not be the case) they weren't able to go and raid champions league teams in England in their first summer. Even 2 seasons in they had enormous difficulty getting Lescott off us and probably paid double the going rate for him.
You are right about an English core and I think we should look to enable this with our young players. Davies, Barkley, Stones, Galloway, Ledson, Dowell, Pennington, Browning can all contribute to lesser or smaller ways. We can obviously supplement that where possible with signings which are possible and we won't have to pay massively over the odds and offer good experience (such as Dann) and add him to Barry/Jagielka/Baines.
For me thats enough of a core. I think the signing of Monchi tells us a to about how we will try to move forward and I would be delighted if we get him. It will mean we will (continue) to be astute in the transfer market. There will be much better value out there. Cillesen at 12 million springs out as a good signing.
As for Koeman, I understand you don't rate him but that is different to it not being a statement. He wasn't my number 1 choice but there's no doubt it has make waves and would've done more so had the Euro's not been on. Southampton are stunned by it. Whether we should have done it is a separate question but to was a good statement no doubt.

I think there has been some ridiculous hyperbole regarding the impact of the changes and potential changes since the arrival of Moshiri. For me this is about returning us to a position where we can be competitive. The suggestions that we are "rich" and can buy anyone are for the twitterati.
The likes of Chelsea and Man City go into each season now unsure of even the Top 4, let alone the league title.
We need to put the building blocks in place to ensure we can be competitive and sustain it. For me, that means a new stadium, new and significantly improved commercial and sponsorship deals, the best available people managing the clubs affairs, on and off the pitch, and an ability to retain our best players.
A DoF will be a hugely significant appointment, there is practically no value to be had in buying British/Premiership players these days and we need to improve scouting and have a coherent recruitment policy to attract and sign the best young players, on a global level.
We won't have the resources to compete at silly money prices, unless the supposed "2nd billionaire" theory comes to fruition.
I would much rather the club be run on the above principles, aiming for sustainable progression, with the new stadium to be delivered as a priority.

I strongly suspect the "second billionaire" conundrum, whether Usmanov or whether it is explained by Moshiri income being underestimated even more than first suggested. However even in that scenario I can't see that being a game changer in the short to medium term. As was indicated on the Liverpool Echo podcast, we remain a side who's finished 11th the last 2 seasons. Players are going to be very reluctant to join that.
Everything I have seen so far from Moshiri shows to me we won't go about things in the same way Chelsea/City did. IF the second billionaire came we would probably have more money than one and not as much as the other so it can't be characterised as not having money. It is a strategic decision. I never thought it was overly sensible for City to get held to ransom over Lescott, it smacked of poor planning, bad recruitment and an unimaginative manager (which has been later shown up by Hughes in subsequent jobs).
What Moshiri is very carefully doing is getting the relevant people in every job to ensure we have a range of options. The best first team coach, filling the board with competent people to improve off field performance a new head scout and a new DOF. If Monchi comes I can't see us wanting to offer Spurs, what, 100 million for Kane.
For Chelsea and City they were trying to prove they were big clubs and the money they had outdid lack of history. We don't need to make such statements. We are a big club, the 4th biggest in England and if we get things right players will come. We don't need to worry about radically changing perceptions, we just need to get the right players in. All this talk on "marquee signing" is a nonsense. We don't need todo that. Get the players you need.
An English core is important, and thats why alongside recruitment we need to keep the good work of the academy in developing our own players.

Moshiri isn't even very rich by Premier League standards. The owners of Newcastle, Sunderland and Southampton, as well as other clubs, are far more wealthy. The 100 million being quoted is likely to be 50% TV money. But loads of Evertonians have gone into premature hysteria as usual.

The press have been saying we have around £100m+ to spend. I don't know which planet you're living on but that means we haven't got enough to buy Kane, Alli and Dier, regardless of the fact they wouldn't agree to terms as we finished 11th barring something crazy like offering them 200k a week.
Accusing fans of being RS because they don't expect us to buy some of the most highly rated players at clubs that are in the champions league when we reportedly only have 100m to spend is beyond stupid. You're either trolling (badly) or just mentally incapacitated. Seriously.
