Change of style next season?

Would love to see a 3-5-2/5-3-2 if we could sign Micah Richards with Baines and Coleman as wing backs with McCarthy, Barkley and Cleverley in the middle.

We are missing that No 10 so hopefully we can sign Del or 2nd Striker for Rom

Got to be a 3-4-2-1 for me, Baines and Coleman either side of McCarthy and Cleverley/Besic and Barkley and Mirallas playing off Lukaku. Not every game of course.

Don't laugh but I was watching a game of netball on the telly this week. NZ is actually quite good at this game. What I thought interesting was that you are not allowed to run with the ball in this game. Thus getting it from defence to the attack end is performed by making accurate passes to teammates who are always on the move, always creating space by movement into areas where that space exists (ie where defenders aren't). And then I thought of how opposite to this Everton played the past season. The players off the ball were so static, not creating space and thus not creating an outlet for the pass.
Roberto should watch a game of netball, then get the Everton squad the fittest they've ever been. Because I'd like to see 90 minutes of a team with its players constantly on the move in the search for defender-free space...and you have to be super fit to enable that.

We need to get Phil Neville on the case, his sister was a netball international (I think?)

I think we'll see a 4-3-3 adopted at times next season.

It'll look something like villa;

---------------Robles----------------
Coleman---jags---stones---Baines-
-----------------Besic---------------
-----------Cleverley----McCarthy---
--Mirallas-----------------Barkley---
----------------lukaku---------------

We never play 2 wingers anyway so Ross will be slotted in somewhere, some where stupid like out the wing. You can swap Besic for Barry and Robles for Howard straight away too. Would prefer Ross centre mid with clev making way, and Lennon or del on the flanks.

I think for the most part of the second half of the season it was more of a 4-1-4-1 than a 4-2-3-1, games like Man Utd at home, Swansea away around that time Barkley and McCarthy were forming a bit of a I go you drop back type of partnership with Barry as the anchor. I do like this formation but I don't understand why dropping Barry is the answer people seem to jump toward as McCarthy can't do the job of the sitting midfielder, he's not a holding midfielder he's an all energy box to box midfielder. I'd set up that way next season with Barry a bit deeper and McCarthy and Barkley just ahead of him making runs from deep, then Osman, Cleverley, Pienaar will be needed for a bit of guile and creativity (if Cleverley plays as either a wide midfielder or an attacking midfielder like he did at Wigan) then a pacey winger such as Mirallas, Deulofeu or Lennon. Then with the rumoured number 10 coming in we can always revert to a 4-2-3-1 but Barry is integral to the midfield because of his solidity and the amount of ground he covers protecting the back 4 mixed in with his fantastic on the ball ability. Mix this with one game a week most weeks and I think he'll be back to the Barry we know best that we saw last season.

Not sure I get where you feel McCarthy can't do the holding midfielder role from and feel he's a box to box player??

A box to box player surely needs to be able to chip in with goals and assists which McCarthy really doesn't excell at? He's certainly more a Matic than Fabregas.

..................Howard...................
..Coleman..Stones..Jags...Baines..
..................McCarthy.................
............Cleverley...Barkley..........
....Delefoe....................Mirallas...
...................Lakaku...................

I'd also want Lennon, another creative CM, another CB and another striker adding to that.

Distin, alcaraz, Gibson (sorry lad), McGeady and Kone all moving out. Oh and probably Barry too

He's not got the strength and presence to anchor a midfield. He's neither a Matic or a Fabregas, if you're comparing him to Chelsea players he's more of a Ramires. I think he's got it in him to do more up the pitch when given a bit more license to get forward. Goals against United & Newcastle as well as missed chances and an assist vs Swansea proved that towards the end of the season when he got more of a license to roam that he can do both.

Might a change in wide players help? I'm a fan of Mirallas, but he tends to play for himself more than for others. I think Lennon would perhaps be more creative of the two. If we could get a Pienaar type player on the other flank then that could do a lot of the creating for Lukaku.
It still puts a lot of pressure on the wide players. But yea a playmaker on one side and a quick player to stretch their defence on the other is more than likely the team formation he's going for. A tweaked version of his first season formation.
