Champions League revamp

Just threats so far from both sides. Let’s say it goes ahead. The national leagues could threaten to bar players from national teams. But it’s far easier to just stop picking those players. You will soon see players transferring back into the leagues. It will be like the initial buzz of being lured to China for mega bucks only to find the grass aint greener.

It depends. Sky would still show the Premier League, deals signed up to for next season already I believe, there'd be a transition of sorts but if they banned all player trading with the breakaway clubs that'd be another nail in the coffin for it. We also have a relative 'sugar daddy' owner so would be insulated a bit, plus FFP would be binned off.

Overall it'd be a massively good thing for us, and for football. It'd reset the game completely, which is badly needed - an unoffial 'salary cap' scenario.

Smaller clubs rely on transfer fees from the big clubs for their young talent...without these cash injections these clubs are screwed.

As for us, our 'Sugar daddy' has no interest in our club if this happens....with that goes our funding for a new stadium....and without the big clubs in the Premier league, Sky's next deal (if they even bothered) would be a fraction of what it is now....

True. But this is about money. And Spurs make money. And generate money. There is a lot of naiveté about this plan in this thread. To repeat, I am against it completely. But I haven't got my head in the sand. Football has been about money since 1992 and the start of the CL. This idea is merely the culmination of the path football has been on for decades.
This - and we were equally culpable with the breakaway in 92 - pure greed - saw ourselves as superior to others - not having the slightest foresight to see that we could easily be out earned by London sides etc.... one of the things that was binned that gate money used to be split 50/50 - started the “I’m alright jack” attitude that’s so pervasive in modern day football.

I wouldn't put it past them to try to create an alternative world cup consisting only of players who play in their league but by nationality
