CD EVERTON GLORY
CD Everton are the new champions of Chile!
The Toffees South American counterparts put on a magnificent display at their Estadio Sausalito stadium to defeat Colo Colo 3-0 and overturn a two-goals deficit from the first leg.
CD Everton will now play in the South American Copa Libertadores, which is their equivalent of the European Champions League.
It’s the first time since 1976 that Corporación Deportiva Everton de Viña del Mar (to give them their full title) have lifted the Chilean title, and the fourth time in their history.
Action from the victory over Colo Colo
‘The Ruleteros’ were founded in 1909 in the Vina del Mar area of Chile by a group of visiting sailors from Liverpool, who gave the club the name of Everton.
After losing 2-0 at Colo Colo in the first leg of the play-off CD Everton fought back magnificently to take the title.
Amazingly, the second leg was still goalless at half-time with Colo-Colo looking comfortable for a fifth straight title.
But two minutes into the second period, Argentine striker Ezequiel Miralles halved the deficit and fifteen minutes later Jaime Riveros netted to level the aggregate score.
With the Primera División Championship really up for grabs, CD Everton went for the kill and Miralles clinched it with a late header to send the vast majority of the 15,000 spectators into raptures.
