I'm sure we'd be saying the same thing as Souness if Adrian had done that and put James out for a year. it was such a ridiculous thing to do, even for a keeper. Everyone is saying 'why did he come out like that' I think it's clear he led with his lower body cos he didn't want to get hurt, but then in doing that he absolutely levels the other player. His judgment is completely shot, not great if you're a keeper.

Souness is from a generation of Liverpool players who expected to win everything and saw an Everton team come from nowhere and utterly outclass them just as they were going around calling themselves the best team ever. They’ve still not got over it to this day. Rush, Dalglish, Souness, Hansen they all have a permanent chip on their shoulders and loathe Everton. They’re extremely bitter and twisted even now. None of them are even that bothered about United or City, they just hate Everton.

Carragher was a different generation that probably didn’t consider Everton that much of a threat. They still don’t want us to do well and some of them like Gerrard, Murphy, still seem to be obsessed with us, but most of them equally dislike United and Chelsea as well if not more.
