You say that but i have vivid memerios of Tony Hibbert at centre back. I dont see the point of having less quality ollayers in the squad, if they sign a contract its up to them to get into the team.

I'm sorry, but it was a freak situation, which won't happen too aften. If you want to try and prepare for things like that with signing many players, whom will be unhappy sitting on the bench under normal circumstances, than you can of course do it. But IMHO it's a mistake.

Apparently we are interested in Valencia's 30 years old CB Carlos Marchena. Very good CB IMO, and for 3 Mill would allow us to offload Distin or Yobo (who I still rate). So we could use the money to sign a playmaker or a winger.

Lets be honest our defensive record last season speaks for itsself and we were caught out with depth in that position - many have strong opinions on who good enough and whos not - i would be annoyed with the manager given our record if he didnt look at variables of improving our goals against record.

If that assessment is inclusive of injecting new blood im personaly all for it and its required - i would like to think last season defensively was a blip rather then a standard but it certainly needs addressing.

I think we should be getting used to concede more goals, because we are so much more attacking minded that even 2 seasons ago. Not that I'm happy about it, but that's the way it it - also, Premier League as a whole was a very attacking league last season, it's kind of naive to expect us be on the same level comparing to previous seasons, when there is plenty of games which didn't in goalless draw, like it would happened season or two ago.

I think we should be getting used to concede more goals, because we are so much more attacking minded that even 2 seasons ago. 1 season ago, a season which saw us get to a cup final and qualify for Europe, breaking clean sheet records all over the show. If you think conceadeing two goals a game is down to us progressing and attacking more mate im afraid ill have to respectively disagree.

I can think of many games where we were pegged back after being well on top and it wasnt down to constantly attacking. Its all opinions like, but the defence is one area of the team we could certainly improve.
