The "Champions" thread isnt getting as many comments ha.
As if seriously people didnt know how big a turnover was needed here. Its not the worst squad i have ever seen at Everton. Some of the early 90s was dross. But that was a squad assembled on a shoestring budget. For money spent this is the worst unbalanced squad i have seen.
Complete idiot if anyone thought this was a quick fix.
I think it depends what you class as being 'fixed'. People who are talking about challenging for the title or even finishing top 4 are in for a very long wait I think, we're not going to be 'fixed' to that extent for the foreseeable future in my opinion. If you class 'fixed' as a clear and obvious improvement in both prformances and results though, it's a bit different. I've said before, this season will finish 18 months after he took over. The squad that he took over had finished in the top 8 in the 3 seasons immediately prior to him coming in. He is by all accounts one of the best (and therefore best paid) managers in the world, and so I really don't think it's unreasonable to expect him to have pushed us on fairly significantly over the course of 18 months. I think 7th pushing 6th would be a good return. I think any lower than 8th would be a real disappointment, and would mean that we had probably got our recruitment wrong this summer (again). We signed players to push us on in the short term, if we finish 9th it will just be another year wasted and mean we effectively either change the strategy again or play the very dangerous game of going for more short term options; if we do that and it still doesn't work then we're probably going to find ourselves in a lot of trouble.

But not great options still. The 1 game career player over a injury liability.
Genuinely starting to believe you wouldnt mind Everton losing on saturday just so you can knock one out on this forum.
No, they’re not great options but you still don’t pick the worst of

If you believe I want Everton to lose to gloat on a forum then you are very wrong. I am a massive Evertonian who only wants what is best for my club.

My concern with Carlo is that football has changed over the last 5 or 6 years, but perhaps he hasn’t.

High pressing, high tempo possession based football is dominant but we don’t do any of it. Liverpool, City, Leeds, even Southampton noticeably changed to this style of play instantly when they appointed their last manager, it’s very apparent we won’t be.

PL is going to be a 2-3 year process at best and we'll need a bit of luck too ! Carlo's priority should be that League Cup QF. A Cup this year or next would be a great springboard. The club is desperate for some silverware .... best opportunity is the LC now !

Only time will tell. We have bought two immediate players to go in. Allan and rodriguez. They have added. Other two. Doucoure, to early to judge. Godfrey. Possible one for a year or two time. Though i am concerned we are making some usual errors. 50m for two players relegated isnt good.
I want to see if ancelloti can attract players over the next two windows. Only then do i think it will go either way.
I cant stress enough how much i have given up on this squad pre ancelloti. Vastly overpaid and overated 90% of them.

We have had a lot of possession stats in our favour.
We wouldnt be so bad if the defence was more capable of digging out more clean sheets. Spurs are top of the table. They dont high press. But they have let in half the amount of goals Everton have.
First things first in my opinion. Stop leaking goals.

I have a feeling under Ancelloti, it will be 12th this season, then 15th, then 8th, then 4th, then 3rd, then 1st. Just leave the guy alone for 5 years.

Why you not answered my question yet? Is the Evs team better this season or last?

Not a chance. If we’re not going to finish any higher than 8th for 3 years then you don’t bring in Allan, doucoure, James or Olsen because it’s a complete waste of time and money. We’ve spent money to improve quickly, it’s very obvious. If we don’t then the plan hasn’t worked.

Everton manager in short options shock. Experience over a player whos played 1 league game in his career. Take your pick.
No matter what one he went with you would moan.
How are the younger players ever supposed to gain experience, though?

There needs to be a pathway to the first team, and if they're not going to get a game ahead of poor players doing jobs out of position, what's the point in them being here?

Are the highly-paid, experienced squad fillers (eg Delph, Sigurdsson and Iwobi) really giving us more than the likes of Lookman and Vlasic would have done at a fraction of the cost?

Throw in stories like Gibson having to effectively be coerced into a signing a new deal under pain of not being allowed to go out on loan, and it does feel as though something is amiss at Everton.

Well in nkounkous case he is getting cup games. I think some forget he never played a single senior league game for marseille before he arrived. I think he's looked ok in cup games but who knows. Ancelotti has been a manager for 25 years in 5 top leagues. If he's not seeing something in him day to day YET behind the scenes got to go with that i suppose.
Lookman doesnt look a real loss now tbh.

No, but I'd sooner have kept him and used the money wasted on Iwobi elsewhere.

Don't get me wrong, these are largely problems that predate Ancelotti by a long, long time. I'd just hoped that he would see through the usual suspects and freeze them out, as I think you get more from enthusiastic kids than jaded, one-foot-out-the-door older pros.
