And you've based this on what?

Also what stops Naismith (your choice) just speaking to the manager anyway if he's got a grievance?

Oh come on, he's right. Jags is boss but he's a [Poor language removed] cat. You need a mix of personalities, but the armband needs to be given to someone with large testicles, a big mouth and plenty of heart. I just dont see that in Jagielka

Don't think i would want him mate would make a great number 2 though.
Problem martinez has is his staff he brought from wigan just go along with everything he says.
I've never thought of Reidy as a great manager, but I think our club would be made for him, probably the same situation as with Alan Ball,Bally would have loved the Everton job of that I'm certain.

I think it goes deeper than Jags. For the last 10 years we've been a team who have been too soft. We don't crowd the ref when we get terrible decisions against us, none of our players go down and waste time when we're winning. You only have to look at players like Gibson who have come from a club with a winning mentality and are constantly in the referees ear. Anyway McCarthy for me without question.

He's stunk the place out, imo. The level of performances from a so called captain has been a disgrace. The odd decent game where he's made a covering tackle aside, he's been woeful. That has to be unacceptable for an Everton captain. We've had some fiercely competitive CB captains over the years; real leaders. Jagielka is somewhere near the bottom of the pile.
Agree word for word. Jagielka has been APPALLING this year. He's getting off lightly with most due to his goal against the RS.

The bar is set very low if he's had a good season playing-wise. Early on he was singularly responsibe for us falling apart at the back. He might have stabilised since then, but really what has the feller done other than a bog standard job? We're conceding goals from set pieces like a load of Lewis's dummies. What's he doing there to stop that?

...and that's leaving to one side his chronic leadership 'qualities'.
I feel queasy agreeing with Davek but again, he's spot on. Jagielka's performance in the 6-3 loss to Chelsea was the worst I have EVER seen an Everton captain deliver. He didn't deserve his place in the starting XI after that, let alone captaincy.

What about Coleman, the right age, always starts, never backs down, been at the club years now.
Coleman would be my choice. Baines is a possible, but he seems to lack the cold ferocity I like to see in a leader. Naismith is not the top-tier player that Seamus is - other teams recognise Coleman as worthy of respect and I suspect Naismith doesn't evoke the same level of response.

Long term I'd be looking at Ross or Stones, but Coleman I think should be our captain from June 2015.

McCarthy and Stone build flats for the old folk, so should be good at marshalling all the geriatrics in our team. Both would make a good captain and vice captain.

The captain is the manager's choice but he's also the mouthpiece of the team. I can truly imagine Jags not passing on the players' grievances purely because he doesn't like confrontation and also doesn't like to make a scene.

I mean, would you like him as your union rep?

Jagileka was Moyes' choice as captain. When Neville announced his retirement Moyes named the captain for the next season, even though he almost certainly knew he wouldn't be here himself as manager.

Martinez was kinda stuck with him.
