I think it might be better just to start a new season and not have european footy for a year. Probably safer.
Of course. Imagine these decisions were made with logic rather than being motivated by money.
It’s obvious that competitions that cross borders are a risk. What if most of Europe is in half decent shape early next year, CL and EL football goes ahead, then there is a second peak in Italy or France. Then what?
They need to set a hard deadline (realistic, not 3 games a week in a quarantined facility and a 2 week turnaround before the new season) for all major leagues in Europe to begin again, then cancel all of them when it becomes obvious it’s not going to happen.
Then put all professional football on hold indefinitely until it is clearly safe to resume properly - I.e. - when we have a proven vaccine and/or other ways of controlling it.
It will mean some clubs and supporting businesses will go to the wall, but we’re talking about peoples lives. Then when we’re past this, football will have to adjust to the new economy like every other industry on the planet.
