Cancelling this season's Premier League

Should football be canceled until August and this season declared null and void?

Teams fighting relegation having no home home advantage isnt lacking integrity?

The 6-7 relegation threatened teams should be refusing this empty stadium idea

Tbf I've now read this from several sources and it does sound as if some tentative plans for resuming with empty stadia are being discussed.

Its hugely problematic and absolutely unfair to relegation threatened teams among others - those chasing promotion and Europe etc

There are numerous hurdles to clear not least the situation in the UK and whether its even half feasible or whether the government would clear it too - even with so called empty stadia.

Contract issues are a big stumbling block and legal contracts aren't easily put aside, workarounds are hard to find.

I suspect it'll be deemed too early but expect the premier league will try everything to finish the season even if a later start than that.

Hopefully pie in the sky and it's abandoned - there really are so many barriers

Ok it's the Mail so possibly needs verification from other reliable sources and noone gives up that money if it's not going to benefit them long term....but

this may be significant

There was an article a couple of days ago, republished in NZ but Telegraph I think, saying Bundesliga reckoned that even behind closed doors games required about 250 people. While there is community transmission ongoing and no vaccine available every game will be a risk to all involved. Totally reckless idea.

Thing is Germany have this more under control then we do, the virus I mean and testing... etc so can understand why they might think about it.
However in the UK it's possibly spread too much as it is, and anything that might make it worse shouldn't be considered. However the government wont care, no way they will stop the FA if they ask to go play on. The only thing that can stop it is players not be willing to risk it

I can only speak for myself but if I was a pro player and had family I'd say they can gutfecked.

None of that matters when the 20 PL clubs sit down and vote on it, only the decide.

Obviously, at this moment they’re saying all the right things and looking to be doing everything they can to preserve the integrity of the competition.

In reality at least 15 clubs are sitting in that room and voting who will be absolutely delighted with null and void, some have even said so or indicated that in public already but they’ve now gone quiet as they swerve the negative publicity and let the process run its course.

In the next few weeks we’ll see that scenario voted through. Justified by saying all the right things again about giving it every chance but people’s health must come first, they’re position became untenable blah blah blah.

Then the planning for when and how we can start next season will start, that will be priority. They’ll be happy with the pro-rata TV money at worst for this season but they’ll want to get next years TV money in now, kits launched and on sale, the transfer wheel turning and new sponsorship deals activated etc.

This is a global crisis, they know their will be some sort of impact but this keeps it to a minimum. It also gives next season a chance, it gets new money coming in immediately and most of all, it keeps clubs like Villa, Norwich, West Ham, Brighton, Southampton, Bournemouth, Newcastle, Palace, Watford, all clubs who own 5% of the vote, feeding again from the Premier League trough for another year.

Turkeys aren’t going to be voting for Christmas in this, they’re too greedy.

Tottenham Hotspur has announced all non-playing staff, including those who had been furloughed, will get their full salary for April and May.

Only the board will take a salary cut during the COVID-19 pandemic.

I read that. Funny though isn't it... Liverpool 'reversed' their decision after 'listening' to the concern of their fans and did the right thing.
However... Spurs were 'forced' into making a 'U-Turn' after the 'angry response' of the fans.
Exact same issue. Exact same resolution. By my, oh my, two very different ways of reporting it from a biased media...

A good post from @Tin-Tin in another thread showing how certain members of the Red-press portray similar events very differently.

The difference. Wonder how they will spin this to make it look like Liverpool supporters had a massive effect on Spurs's decision

All the football news outlets are literally just full of stories about: Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham. You wouldn’t know that other clubs existed in this lockdown.
Well, you should know mate, the only real victims of this corona virus are those that yearn for a FC Liverpool Premier League title victory. Who cares about the 100,000+ who have died from this disease? The sports media are rightly concentrating on those who have genuinely been hurt and had their lives flipped upside down by this! lol

France is considering restarting Ligue 1 on 3 June or 17 June, with the latter date more likely, sports daily L'Equipe has reported, citing a document from league organisers (LFP).

Soccer in France was suspended indefinitely last month due to the COVID-19 pandemic. On Monday French President Emmanuel Macron extended the lockdown in the country to May 11.

The L'Equipe report said that if the season resumed on 17 June teams would have to play every three days so the regular campaign could end by 25 July, leaving time for relegation and promotion playoffs to be completed by 2 August.

L'Equipe also said LFP members had voted on Friday to push back the start of next season by two weeks to 23 August, but that the decision would have to be confirmed by France's Football Federation (FFF).

The French Cup final between Paris St Germain and St Etienne has been scheduled for 27 June, according to the document, while the League Cup final between PSG and Olympique Lyonnais had been pencilled in for 11 July.
