Calm down

Was just glad to see Martinez address the defending straight away in his interview. He's an intelligent bloke and I think hell sort it out. I'm normally gutted after a result like this but the attacking display tells me well give someone else some of that punishment.
What did he say? Away for the weekend.

Agree with @zirc on this, I've felt worse after conceding 5 or 6 goals. The 2 goals in the first 3 minutes was a hateful start to a match and ruined us and the defending (Jags/Howard) was incredibly disappointing. But we were also unlucky: Ivanovic got away with a blatant offside for their 2nd, Lukaku rattling the bar with the linesman suddenly finding his glasses and ruling our rebound goal offside. Besic having his erm, moment and even the OG sneaking just inside the post. I thought we at least showed something in coming back each time.

There was excellent performances from Seamus and Super Kev particularly for me, possibly the most entertained I've been watching us lose. Chelsea and Man City are out & out the 2 strongest teams so we need to start winning now, starting at West Brom.

So what changed then
That's for Martinez to work out, I'm just a fan having a late night fume after watching Everton concede six for the first time in 40 years of going to the match. Probably the worst defensive performance I've ever witnessed at Goodison Park, and that included the 0-5 against that lot. My hunch is Jags and Distin are a year older, which at their age means something. Jags struggled at the back end of last season, had a terrible world cup (who didn't) and has come into this season devoid of any confidence or composure. As a team, we pressed all over the park last season but didn't at all today. Martinez rightly took the plaudits last season, now he needs to show his metal and get this team back on track defensively. I hope he can.

i hate football again

could be worse though imagine supporting carlisle who went all the way to cambridge to get twonked 5 nil.

hate chelsea

I hear you..I am reminded once again of the opening lines of the great Bon Jovi song..." It's all the same, only the names will change" :whip:

Haven't seen the game. Woke up for at around 5.30am here to see the score and then went back to bed, and to be honest all I can think of at the moment is that "good teams" don't concede in the opening minute, and don't concede a goal a minute after scoring.
So like last week, am guessing it must have been mickey mouse, school boy park football in defense?

no mate...just giving an alternative view. I am a Lukaku fan. And in a very calm manner ;)
I didn't mean it in the sense that I think lukaku is bad, far from it. I just saw, in the shot time he was on the pitch, some real top class movement and ability from eto'o. I didn't actually see him much last season but seems to me mourinho was way off base with his assessment.

Lukaku is a gun. I have no problem with our strikers for the first time in 3 decades.
We clearly have issues defending as a team..and individually our defenders have been pathetic. We have been conceding goals all pre-season and also in August like crazy.
This makes my "alternative view" above a real possibility...

Fair do's, I think we might be a bit worse defending this season but our improved attack will make up for it. This side reminds me a bit of some arsenal sides from the last few years...get a bollocking from a few top teams but have the quality, class and maturity to finish the campaign in a good position.
